One Leg for RAFAEL !!

My name is RAFAEL SEGURA, I am 54 years old, I live in Venezuela, and my health condition is diabetic type II with right leg amputation on the knee. My case began in February 2019 where, due to failures in the electricity supply in the country, I stumbled upon a piece of metal on a Friday. For the next Monday when I go to a hospital to treat my wound, I am informed that my small toe had to be amputated, since it was necrotic. In view of this, the required amputation was carried out, consuming in this procedure all my savings, since my insurance policy had changed qualification without any notification and did not cover the amount of the operation. With the passing of time the healing process does not evolve favorably, and by medical indication for the month of April, I had an arterial examination. The diagnosis of the exam was SEVERE ARTERIAL CALCIFICATION (Monckeberg disease).

This type of disease is of the arteries, usually of the extremities, of degenerative type, independent of arteriosclerosis, which is characterized by sclerosis and calcification of the middle layer. It is more frequent in diabetic patients.

On May 2019, I enter the operating room again, finding the following findings: severe arterial calcification, extensive and deep necrosis of the right foot to planar predominance with arteriosclerotic vascular package. On this admission to the hospital I had the procedure of surgical right foot cleaning and posterior tibial balloon angioplasty, so that the artery will supply blood to the right foot again.

The result of the procedure was not favorable and my surgeon determined that an amputation should be performed above of my right leg knee. This procedure was carried out two days after the previous procedure described.

For all this process I received help from my sisters and my brother who with all the love in the world and according to their possibilities helped me financially.

Once recovered from healing and with exercise therapy and rehabilitation. For the month of July I am told that I am ready for my prosthesis. When I receive this news, a new hope is born in me that I will walk again and realize my new life with my existing condition, but the cost is twelve thousand five hundred American dollars (US $ 12,500), which I do not have and in Venezuela I have not been able to Get help.
