Una guirnalda por Gladys

This is Gladiola Rodriguez Mendez (also known as Gladys). She is the owner of Gladys la Fiesta, and works as a professional balloon decorator in her home of Mexico City, Mexico.

Esta es Gladiola Rodriguez Mendez (mas conocida como Gladys). Gladis es la dueña de “Gladys la Fiesta” y trabaja como decoradora profesional en globos desde su casa en Ciudad de Mexico.

Until recently, Gladys was a fun-loving, hard-working and talented balloon expert. But of course, life does not always go as we plan it.

Gladys es una persona divertida, trabajadora y talentosa. Pero claro, la vida no siempre sale como lo planeamos.

In October 2022, Gladys developed a severe thrombosis in her right leg. This is where blood clots form which prohibit the flow of blood, and is the leading cause of death in many developed countries around the world.

En Octubre 2022, Gladys desarrollo una trombosis severa en su pierna derecha. Una trombosis es cuando se forman coágulos de sangre que evitan que la sangre fluya. Siendo además la principal causa de muerte en muchos países desarrollados alrededor del mundo.

Unfortunately, her doctors were unable to treat her condition in time. They had no choice but to take extreme measures…and by that they removed most of her right leg, from above her knee.

Desafortunadamente, los doctores de Gladys no pudieron tratarla a tiempo y sin mayor opción tuvieron que amputar su pierna desde arriba de su rodilla.

Her recovery has been extremely painful and she has a very long road ahead of her before she can live a normal life again. However, because of the financial strain this situation has placed on Gladys and her family, they are unable to keep up with her medical expenses as well as afford the necessary prosthetic in order to get her back on her feet again….literally.

Su recuperación ha sido extremadamente dolorosa y aún falta mucho antes de que ella pueda volver a recuperar su vida normal. Sin embargo, esto se está viendo cada vez más difícil debido a la presión financiera que esta situación ha puesto sobre Gladys y su familia con los gastos de tratamiento y el precio de una prótesis para que Gladys pueda ponerse en pie nuevamente… literalmente.

It is the vicious cycle that we all know….Gladys needs a prosthetic so she can get back to working on what she does best, but without the prosthetic, she cannot get back to work to earn any money.

En el circulo vicioso que todos conocemos… Gladys necesita una prótesis para poder trabajar, en este momento por obvias razones no puede trabajar y por lo tanto no ha podido pagar por su prótesis.

We are hoping to raise roughly $5000.00 US, with $3000.00 US going towards the purchase of her prosthetic leg and $2000.00 US going to help her family catch up on bills and for future therapy that Gladys will need to learn how to properly use her prosthetic.

Por Gladys y para Gladys queremos reunir $5000 dólares. La idea es que $3000 sean destinados para la prótesis que Gladys necesita. Y que los otros $2000 sean para la costear la terapia necesaria para adaptarse a la prótesis.

For our fellow friends in the balloon industry, we are asking you to donate the financial equivalent of one (1) balloon garland that you would sell to a client. But of course no donation will be turned down as we work towards our goal.

Compañeros y amigos en la industria de los globos, estamos pidiendo que nos ayuden a alcanzar esta meta. Les pedimos que nos ayuden donando el dinero que un cliente pagaría por (1) garland o guirnalda de globos. Obviamente, si no puedes donar esa cantidad, cualquier cantidad será bien agradecida y ayudara alcanzar la meta.
