Hola a todos:

Mi nombre es Leonardo Rodríguez, soy un joven Venezolano de 20 años de edad, con sueños, aspiraciones y metas que conquistar. Me gustaría compartir con ustedes un poco de mi historia y animarlos a que me apoyen en la continuación de mi proceso de formación.

En los últimos años Venezuela ha vivido profundos cambios. Del año 2013 al 2019 la producción interna disminuyó 70%. La inflación sólo en el último año fue de 3.365%. Más de cuatro millones de venezolanos han salido a otros países buscando nuevos horizontes ante el empobrecimiento generalizado de la población. La educación universitaria, tanto pública como privada, se ha deteriorado y han disminuido tremendamente las opciones de preparación profesional para muchos jóvenes como yo.

En esta situación tan difícil decidí buscar nuevas opciones para continuar mi preparación académica. Por ello participé en el proceso de selección nacional de la Asociación Venezolana de los Colegios del Mundo Unido (AVEMUNDO). Es un proceso muy exigente. Fallé en dos oportunidades pero no me dí por vencido. Al tercer intento lo logré. Con el decidido apoyo de mis padres, familiares y amigos logramos cubrir los gastos que se necesitaron para iniciar esta genial aventura de estudiante internacional.

Hace casi cuatro meses completé mis dos fantásticos, retadores, transformadores y únicos años de experiencia UWC cursando el Bachillerato Internacional. Tuve la fortuna de haber sido seleccionado para UWC Costa Rica, el único colegio bilingüe dentro del movimiento, así como el único en Latinoamérica. Creo que esto marcó la diferencia en mi desarrollo personal y académico. Para el momento que comencé este viaje no contaba con suficientes conocimientos de un segundo idioma. Este fue probablemente el primer gran reto que afronté en esta experiencia. UWC Costa Rica me permitió desarrollar esa proficiencia en el inglés al grado de cursar mi diploma en modalidad bilingüe

UWC se convirtió en una plataforma académica y de desarrollo personal para mí, así como para cientos de jóvenes en el mundo. Gracias a esto tuve la oportunidad de aplicar para continuar mi formación en Los Estados Unidos. Fui aceptado en la Methodist University en Carolina del Norte para estudiar Ingeniería con una beca completa. Sin embargo, hay muchos gastos adicionales, como exámenes médicos, vacunas, una laptop con especificaciones para la carrera, entre algunos otros, los cuales mi familia y yo no podemos cubrir.

La pandemia del COVID-19 ha sacudido el mundo de maneras inimaginables, y hoy estoy infinitamente agradecido con UWC Costa Rica por seguir apoyándonos en estos tiempos de pandemia.

De igual manera estoy infinitamente en deuda contigo que te tomaste el tiempo de leer mi historia, y si está en tus posibilidades te pido que me apoyes de manera económica y/o compartiendo estas líneas para respaldar esta campaña.

Hi everyone:

My name is Leonardo Rodríguez, I am a Venezuelan young man of 20 years old. With dreams, aspirations, and goals to achieve. I will like to share with you a little of my story and to encourage you to support me to continue my formation process.

In recent years Venezuela has experienced a series of deep changes. From 2013 to 2019 the internal production decayed 70%. The inflation was 3365% in the last year. More than four million Venezuelans had moved to other countries seeking new horizons before the generalized impoverishment of the populations. Higher Education, Public, and Privat has deteriorated and has decreased tremendously the options for a Professional preparation for several teens like myself.

In a situation that hard I decided to look for new options to continue my education. Because of this, I participate in the National Selection Process of the Venezuelan National Association for the United World Colleges (Avemundo). It is a really demanding process, I failed twice but I did not give up. And at the third and last opportunity, I finally made it. With the strong support of my parents, family, and friends we were able to cover the expenses that were needed to start this amazing adventure of an International Student.

Almost four months ago I completed my two fantastic, challenging, transforming, and unique years of experience UWC coursing the International Baccalaureate. I had the fortune of being selected to UWC Costa Rica, the only fully bilingual school on the UWC movement, as well as the only one in Latin America. I think that this marked a difference in my personal and academic development. At the time that I started this journey, I did not have enough knowledge of a second language. This probably was the first big challenge that I faced in this experience. UWC Costa Rica allowed me to develop that proficiency in English at the level of coursing my Diploma on the bilingual modality.

UWC became an academic platform and of personal development for me, like for hundreds of teens around the globe. Thanks to this, I had the opportunity to apply to continue my formation in the United States. I was accepted into Methodist University in North Carolina to pursue an Engineering Major with a full scholarship. Nevertheless, there are several additional expenses such as; medical tests, vaccines, a laptop with specifications for the major, among others, which myself and my family cannot cover.

The Global Pandemic of the COVID-19 has shaken the world in unimaginable ways, and today I am infinitely grateful to UWC Costa Rica for keeping supporting us at this time.
