Ally’s Fundraiser for people fleeing UKRAINE

Dear Friends, Family, and Everyone Else!

If you have been following me, you will see I have adjusted my previous campaign project; as you can see, I am a dreamer, and bless my partner, Gabriel, having believed in me enough not to stop me!

However, when I realised my task's grand scale and apparent impossibility, I lost energy and felt a little foolish. Nonetheless!

The wonderful donations in the fundraiser bank will be transferred to a split cause. And I am on a new mission for the 19 days remaining of my fundraising campaign!!! Read on.

Half of the proceeds will be directed to this wonderful man, Elmi's Foundation for Somalia (scroll down and read below), and a half to New Beginning's Children's Charity (also read below.)

NOTE: PLEASE DONATE TO MY PAGE LINKED HERE (not to the individual charity websites). I want to collect the total sum in one pot and then write a beautiful email to the charities with the donations in tow. They both know they are coming.

WHAT I WOULD LOVE: Today, I am asking for £24 a head and 1,000 people! Why?

The children's charity project "Genesis House" costs £12,000 to run for one year, so I figured if I could ask 1000 people to donate £12 to the children's charity and £12 to Elmi's charity, we could raise £12,000 for both of them! For reference, in AUD, that is $20,000. USD is $15,000, and in Euros, it is similar.

By supporting these charities, we are helping some of the most vulnerable populations to leave Ukraine and bringing awareness to the racism that exists even in times of war and despair… that's how deep-rooted it is.

Although £24 is a lot to my family at this stage in my life, it may not be to you.

Please forward this campaign as I only have two weeks left to make some moves to help these charities. I also need help as I don't know 1,000 people who can part with £24! Do you?

I'm not discounting that this cost may be impossible for some, and if so, it would help me so much if you could please share my campaign on your social feeds with a quick excerpt about what I need! Charity #1 New Beginnings

Goal: £12 per person + 1000 people = £12,000

About: New Beginnings was established in 2001 following a tale of true inspiration and perseverance by founder Pat Harrison MBE who fought against the Ukraine officials and government to open the doors of Genesis House and later went on to be named Kyiv's 'Woman of the Year'.

They are a small UK-based charity run by a team of non-paid Trustees, and whilst Pat is now 81 years of age, she can assure us that any funds we can generate will all go towards helping children from Ukraine in crisis. Pat has been working in Ukraine for over 25 years, and you can read about some of their progress in the old newsletters on their website. Pat told me their Foster children and Foster Mother are all safe in the Chech Republic, having fled from Genesis House when the Russians invaded the village.

Charity #2

About: Elmi's charity is an AMAZING small group in Poland run by Elmi Abdi, a Somali refugee. He came to Poland 25 years ago - and it has been his mission to help other migrants in Poland ever since.

His foundation supports refugees of colour and marginalised groups who experience racism as they flee. He is filling in the gaps by providing accommodation, transport and medical facilities and general support, and he's currently doing it with minimal resources, sometimes even out of his pocket.

I received the pleasure of meeting a woman named Jaz O'Hara whilst living in London, hence being able to ask her for directions as to where to donate money to. Elmi's words and work are really important, and you can find him on Jaz O'Hara's podcast episode on The Worldwide Tribe. Below is what Jaz has mentioned on her IG account.

Jaz says, "Elmi is dedicated to supporting refugees of colour fleeing Ukraine. Ukraine has been a destination for international students from places like Nigeria, Sudan, India, Turkey and Azerbaijan for years because tuition fees are affordable, and you can study English. For this reason, when Russia invaded, 77,000 students were left having to figure out what to do next.

We all heard stories or saw pictures of people being treated differently or blocked from leaving Ukraine because of the colour of their skin. But not only this but whilst I was in Poland, I was shocked to discover that once these students leave Ukraine, they are not met with the same support or hospitality as Ukrainian citizens. They are not entitled to most of the services provided and cannot get temporary residence in the European Union in the same way that Ukrainians can, even though they have all fled the same war.

Since the recent war broke out in Ukraine, he has shifted his focus to supporting non-Ukrainian nations fleeing Ukraine. There were many students and refugees from African countries such as Sudan and Eritrea studying there who have now had to leave. They cannot access the resources available to Ukrainians here in Poland because you need a Ukrainian passport."
