Ubuntu Box Initiative was founded in 2017 in response to the divisions exposed during the higher education crisisin the university community between 2015 and 2016. Upon conception, the premise of the initiative was to transform institutions of higher learning across South Africa by developing and fostering university communities founded on the principles of Ubuntu. We intend on achieving this by running social justice projects and campaigns with the aim of unifying and galvanising the university community.
These funds will be used to help students in the following ways: To contribute towards registration fees for students who qualify for NSFAS but don’t receive funding and also for those in the ‘missing middle’, paid via the University of Pretoria Financial Assistance office. To support the University of Pretoria Department of Student Affairs student feeding scheme. To support projects on campus that support the principles of Ubuntu such as Pledge a Pad.
