Support the education of children left out of the public school system in Mexico. We are looking to raise MXN 44'000 (USD 1'930), which would keep our educational center running for the next semester (August 2020 to February 2021)!

Over half of Mexican teenagers had to drop out of the public school system.

There are many reasons why a kid would drop out of school: to assist their financially distressed families, due to problematic behaviors or as a result of the inadequacy of the public school system (mental/physical handicap).

Most recent estimates indicate that only 44.8% of 15 years-old in Mexico have access to a continuous education, leaving the rest, at best, to an early start in the working world or, at worst, exposed to street situations, abuse, addictions or criminal activity.

From this fact follows our long-term vision in Tzopel, as we are convinced that educating the youth is the most important factor in individual and societal development.

Our Educative Center accepts all kind of students, though we specialize in working with special needs children.

The humanitarian foundation Tzopel is a non-profit NGO active in underprivileged areas of Cuernavaca, 80km south of Mexico City. Our main objective is to continue the education of children with special needs (physical or mental), who cannot be cared for by public schools and without the means to enroll in private education. However, all students are welcome in the center – adults, teenagers and children. In 2019, we welcomed 117 students in our facilities.

The foundation offers a diverse range of services, all targeted at promoting individual development:

  • Standard teaching lessons, addressed to all children who had to drop out of school
  • Literacy education for adults
  • Counseling sessions from senior psychology students, in partnership with a local university, for light family and personal issues
  • Counseling sessions with a specialized therapist for more serious problems
  • Financial assistance for students in need of medication

As a result of COVID-19, we had to cancel our fundraising events meant to cover our financial needs for the next six months. But you can help!

We are raising MXN 44'000 (USD 1'930) to meet the center's needs for this incoming semester.

Here is a breakdown of what your donation could go towards:

USD 8 (MXN 180): sponsor one child's education for one semester

USD 20 (MXN 450): cover all monthly medication needs

USD 40 (MXN 900): sponsor five kids' education for one semester

USD 100 (MXN 2'200): cover semester therapy costs for 22 families or
the education of 13 children in our center
