Campaign Story
Overview:
Severe Tropical Storm (STS) “ODETTE” (International name: RAI) made its first landfall in Philippines on 16 December 2021 with maximum sustained winds of up to 195 km/hr. Southern Leyte region is one of the areas that was severely hit by the typhoon. The primary livelihood of the residents is coconut farming. Three of my immediate family members reside in the affected region. They are situated within the “Relocation” area where low cost housing (approximately 80 square meters with two bedrooms) were built. The typhoon left severe devastation throughout the region. Vegetation damage is catastrophic. Coconut trees are broken or uprooted. Electrical power distribution and communication services are severely interrupted and it is not resumed yet at this point in time. The videos in this link (Relocation areas) depict the reality of the devastation in the “Relocation” area left by typhoon ODETTE. Credit to Carmela Betonio, owner of the video.

Objectives:
This campaign aims to collect funds to assist my immediate family members and my neighbours within the relocation area to rebuild their homes.
Immediate needs:
- House roofing materials (corrugated iron sheeting, wood trusses and nails)
- Basic goods by way of food pack
Some of the households in our areas depend with the financial assistance from the “working” children in the family. Typical example is my family wherein my old age parents do not have the capacity to avail retirement plan, thus I and my brother are providing their basic needs such as food, electricity & water bills including chronic medication and medical expenses.
This campaign will also aim to provide financial assistance to the church (Assembly of God) in our area that was severely damaged. I shared the Facebook link (Church) of the actual footage that was taken when the typhoon rampaged the church. Credit to Dina Virtudazo, owner of the video.
