Many of you may have heard in the news that a devastating typhoon (Odette) has hit the Philippines causing hundreds of causalities, leaving thousands homeless and displacing hundreds of thousands of locals.

A friend of mine who I met in Quezon City, Philippines when I was volunteer-student back in my college days recently reached out to me with the following message (her name and personal details have been taken out to protect her privacy):

First Message:
"Hello yoshi, I'm XXXXX, im one of the staff of ate XXXXX, CDW (community development Worker), I don't know if you remember me, my co staff are XXXXX, XXXXX, XXXXX, ate XXXXX, ate XXXXX, I hope u remember them.. I'm reaching you because I want to help need, may family in Southern Leyte are so effected if typhoon #oddette , my family are homeless totally washed out. I'm begging you yoshi to help us. Thank you so much for ur response."

Second Message:
"December 16, 2021 super Typhoon Odette hit us so badly in our Province of Southern Leyte. The whole town was really devastated by the typhoon. They also need to go to other City in Leyte just to get a good signal. Currently they still have no electricity, water, signal or communication. Actually after 4 days then I found out to my niece that they are all safe but its sad to say our beloved house are damage but [needs] repair. It's so painful and depressing for me because until now I haven't talked to my beloved mother yet. Because Abuyog Leyte, the city that have signal to contact us is so far I think 3 to 4 hours from the town of Anahawan. And my mother is 70 years old, she can no longer to travel. That's why I miss my mother so much. And It's was an nightmare to us as a Anahawnon because it was the most super typhoon experienced to my fellow compatriots. And it's sad to say some of them are homeless. But we also blessed because our Town Anahawan are all safe and no casualties. We want to say Bangon, Southern Leyte In Gods will. AMEN" 💔😭 🙏

For those of you who have visited the Philippines before, I'm sure you have experienced the warmth, generosity and kindness of the Filipino people. I recall my time there very fondly and it breaks my heart that the people there are going through such difficulties. Christmas should be spent with people you love under a roof and not in a shelter. I would like to ask for your help in a small donation which I would like to send to the affected individual who wrote to me. I am planning on trying to raise $500 for her and her family. Anything above I plan to give to a trusted friend and her organization who is currently there doing relief work.

I will post screenshots of the full amount after the transfers are sent to the relevant individuals for accountability purposes. Thank you in advance for your help. God bless.
