Hello friends and family!

My country, the Philippines, was hit by a signal no. 4 super typhoon (winds of about 220 kph equivalent to a category 5 storm) last Thursday, December 16th. Several cities in the Visayas region including my beloved hometown of Cebu, were pummeled to the ground. The wreckage is MASSIVE. Cebu has already declared a state of calamity and many others will surely follow.

It has been 6 days since the typhoon and the situation is still very dire.

> no electricity in many parts of the Visayas ( power is reported to return after a month). Many of them will have to spend Christmas literally in the dark.

> no mobile/internet service, making it very hard to get updates from loved ones. I know many friends who have yet to hear from their families.

> drinking water and fuel are scarce. People have been desperately lining up at the break of dawn just to purchase them.

> several families have lost their homes, belongings, and livelihood.

> as of this writing, the death toll has risen to 375. Many are still unaccounted for.

Filipinos are known for their immense love for the Christmas season, and I am absolutely heartbroken that many are suffering during what should be a time of merriment.

Along with my fellow Cebuanas, Synna Sheen Langomez Asperga and Mara Feliz Ente, we are knocking on your generous hearts to help us pool funds for the relief mission of several organizations and charities back home. Your money will help purchase drinking water, food, hygiene kits, medicine, and other necessities.

No amount is too small to give. A dollar can go a long way in the Philippines.

We are very grateful for your help. May God bless you and yours.

To my kababayans,

Hang tight. Help is on the way. Maka bangon ragyud ta from this.

Love,

Mae, Mara and Synna
