My name is MARIA TWITCHELL SALVADOR - TAMPUS. I am writing my story in the hopes of gathering financial support to help me go through and fight this unknown illness that struck me.
I am a registered nurse and worked in Saudi. I recently went back to the Philippines to give birth to my son, Nate Ezequiel in February. My husband had to leave us for work overseas when my son was only 2 days old.
Fast forward to July, my weight drastically dropped. At first I thought it was just one of those postpartum side effects. I suddenly felt a huge lump on my upper-right stomach. I often was feeling light-headed and extreme fatigue. I went to the doctor and based on my blood test, I have low hemoglobin count and I needed a blood transfusion. I was admitted at Grace General Hospital in August and with the help of my relatives, I was able to get blood and had my hemoglobin back to normal.
However, the lump on my stomach seems to be getting bigger and bigger. I had to go through endoscopy and colonoscopy in hopes of determining the cause of this lump. But unfortunately, the result was inconclusive.
After I was discharged, I went to the National Kidney & Transplant Institute for a second opinion. This time they had me go through multiple CT scans that cost at least 25,000 pesos. The scans showed multiple lumps in my abdomen, chest and liver. But still, they cannot provide me with a diagnosis as to what these lumps are.
I decided to go to another doctor for a 3rd opinion hoping that this time, the result will give me peace of mind. I came in and had a needle biopsy to determine if these lumps are just TB or if it is lymphoma. But since the most prominent lump is so small, the sample was not enough and the result is yet again, inconclusive. I am really losing hope at this point.
The last resort is for me to go through LAPAROSCOPIC BIOPSY which will require me to be admitted again. And this procedure does not come cheap. My doctor quoted at least 200,000 to 250,000 pesos is needed for this to be done. And since I was hospitalized and had multiple procedures already done, our funds no longer suffice. Neither do I have HMO as I was an OFW. I do have Philhealth but that is not enough to cover this procedure.
It has already been almost 3 months. I had to go to 3 doctors and go through a lot of tests and procedures, but still I don't know what illness this is. I am no longer able to take care of my son as I am constantly tired and in pain. Sleeping is also a difficult task as I get sudden chills and fever at night.
I am knocking on your kind hearts and mustered the courage to ask for help to finance my laparoscopic biopsy. There is no donation too big or too small - any amount will go a long way.
Thank you for your time and may God bless you a thousand fold!
UPDATE: My hemoglobin level went back down again and I need to undergo blood transfusion before I can do the laparoscopic biopsy. This means additional cost. :(
