My name is Amina Noureen and I am a second year university student in Thailand majoring in Global Studies and Social Entrepreneurship. I am accepted to study for a Semester Incubator at Watson Institute Boulder, Colorado.
I am really interested to join this program since I want to work on my venture to help youth through career counseling, specially women, to pursue profession according to their passion, interest and natural inclination. At Watson, I will have access to resources, networks, and personalized support to lay down the strong foundation of my project and find opportunities for funding and collaboration.
I always wanted to go to school, wearing a uniform with a bag full of books. From a young age, I knew that my father, a primary school teacher, could not afford to pay for me and my two elder siblings’ education with his little income. As I got the chance when my aunt enrolled me to school at 12, I start rising with my love and passion for learning winning full scholarship for my HSSC (11th and 12th grade) in Sadiq Public School, Bahawalpur, one of the prestigious school in Pakistan, and later at Asian University for Women in Chittagong, Bangladesh for a year-long Access Academy program.
When I started high school, I persuaded my father to allow me to study Mathematics. I see many young girls do not have this capability to negotiate. Therefore, I decided I will start my own project promoting youth to pursue their dreams but I needed skills, resources, and knowledge that brought me to pursue my bachelors in Global Studies and Social Entrepreneurship at the School of Global Studies (SGS) at Thammasat University in Thailand on a full scholarship.
I believe that each human being has some unique capabilities and talents and to turn my project into reality, I applied for Watson Semester Incubator. I decided to focus on women as in my society, I have seen girls including myself have limited exposure, opportunities, and resources for personal and professional growth. Seeing my passion and vision, Watson awarded me a Women Enlight fellowship to attend the program which will include a total scholarship package of $20,980 covering full tuition and accommodation fee. I have to pay for the rest of the expenses such as air travel, visa, health insurance, and food and living expenses in the US by myself.
I am an international student on scholarship and my saving from my stipend and work study are not enough to bear the cost and my father can not support me because he is a retired primary school teacher. Thus, I am crowdfunding to support myself in this endeavor. Last year, I raised funds for attending the International Youth Summit in Lahore (IYSL), Pakistan which was only possible with the support of my kind donors like yourself. IYSL was helpful in my growth and from an IYSL fellow, Sonam Kumar, I got to know about the Semester incubator program at Watson. As earlier, I greatly need your kind support to raise funds to attend Watson, and I appreciate every action that you take for me from the bottom of my heart.
No matter its size, your support will take me a step closer to the dream opportunity to work on my project at Watson this fall in the short term, an organization to support youth in pursuing their dreams in the mid-term and a career dedicated to social change in the long term!
I'm trying to learn as much as possible so in the future I can come back to provide career counseling for women in Pakistan and particularly in Bahawalpur, my hometown, so youth can pursue their dreams and passions.
The detailed cost breakdown is as follows:
Air Travel = $1500USD, Health Insurance = $167USD, Deposit = $250USD,
US Visa = $160USD, Food Expenses = $1,000USD, Miscellaneous = $250USD
Total = $3327USD
