Turkana Community Sensitization Program

We are a community based organization, based in Turkana County of the Republic of Kenya which is rated the poorest part of the country. The community members depend on foreign aid from donors and have been spending their lives struggling with famine and poverty. We focus on developing these rural communities in Northern Kenya through youth empowerment and by initiating youth-led community development initiatives aimed at improving the life of the community members.

Oil and gas were discovered in Turkana county in early 2012. This discovery has brought with it further destruction of the environment by the oil company in its oil and gas exploration process. Noxious fumes and unnecessary wastes are let into the atmosphere and the oil company doesn’t care what effects this has on the immediate population.There is therefore need to enlighten locals on the same and we intend to be the drivers of that agenda. With this is the contribution to climate change that comes with fossil fuels. That is the only way we can be able to ensure that the pastoralists, who like any other Kenyans, have a right to a cleaner environment get their rights respected.
