Hi, I'm Ashlynn.

I have recently been accepted to a prestigious summer program in my state: Governor's School for the Arts. It is four-week residency summer program for high school students gifted in music, visual art, theatre, dance, and filmmaking. There are over 1,000 applicants total, and in each specialized area there are about 200. Only 30-40 are accepted. (I have been accepted for visual arts). However, my family has told me that the cost is not within their tolerance level, as their are many other expenses they need to cover (housing, retirement). Putting money towards might put a strain on our household.

Being accepted is really exciting for me! I love art and am very passionate about it, and I have received no formal training in this area and I am mainly self taught. Being accepted is such an honor, and even more of an honor considering my lack of formal training (I honestly thought that me and my work didn't stand a chance against other kids who may have gone through formal training, so this was a pleasant surprise, to say the least). Going to Governor's School would allow me to experience working with great professional artists/professors, being surrounded by people who love art as much as I do( this alone would just be an amazing experience) and growing as an artist and reaching my full potential.

Thank you for reading this. Any donation of any amount is greatly appreciated.

(I've included a few photos of my submission portfolio above.)
