My name is Tatenda Manyanga. I’m a Zimbabwean student currently enrolled at Zhejiang University of Science and Technology. I’m doing my final year now an undergraduate in Information and Computational Science (Statistics and Financial Actuarial Science).

I come from a really humble background but things have been really hard on me starting last year. My father is late and I was single handled raised by mom together with 2 siblings. We were staying with my great grandmother who unfortunately passed away on the 11th of November 2020. After my great grandmother passed away there was a lot of family tension regarding her estate and my family was surviving on the money she got from rentals from her house since she was staying with my family.

My mother was diagnosed with anemia and she lost her job due to the pandemic as her company became bankrupt as well. Last year was really a hard time for us.

I’m from Zimbabwe and the inflation rate in Zimbabwe is a nightmare. My mother’s monthly income is less than USD100 if she converts it to USD. As things stand right now there is little than she can do to help me out even with my day to day expenses.

My university journey became in 2017 after I finished my A levels and I always had the dream to study abroad so as to try to get a better living life for me and my family. I applied to study in China via an agent called Pathfinder and they deceived us into thinking that I got a scholarship for the whole duration of my study (but in reality it was only for a year), only to discover that in China. After that my mum has been trying to help me pay my tuition fees as well as my living expenses but the inflation in Zimbabwe is just unheard of.

Last year I managed to extend my residence permit for another year without paying the tuition fees because of the COVID-19 outbreak and I managed to extend my visa till May 2021. However since my mom is not working at the moment I am 2 years behind with my tuition fees and I have a balance of 38747CNY (USD5780) which needs to be cleared by May otherwise I will not be able to extend my residence permit and will be deported. I’m set to complete my degree in June which is only a month after.

Unlike other western countries , in China you can’t work whilst you hold a student visa. So it’s difficult to have a work and study environment here. With all of this going on I could no longer afford staying in the campus and moved into this basement like apartment because that’s the only affordable place at the moment.

I would really appreciate it if you help me complete my tuition fees balance and get my graduation certificate as this can open my doors for me and my family. I am about to start my final year and It would kill me to have wasted all of this time for nothing. No donation is small .

You can personally reach me at [email protected] or [email protected] for further information.
