I am looking for donations for my tuition. I have started college in 2019 in a South African university with no funding and now I am on my final year with outstanding fees. These outstanding debts are keeping me away from graduating and obtaining my degree. I will have to settle these fees before obtaining my qualification.

My name is Nomonde, a 22 years old final year student at the University of the Free State. I am studying a Bachelors degree in Arts, majoring with psychology and English. I started my higher education training a few months after matric. In my matric year I was not familiar with online applications, hence I did not apply for further education.

In 2018 January I did walk-in applications but my applications were never successful. I then applied for an undergraduate degree in UNISA for mid-year intake. I was then admitted in UNISA. When I started studying I was not familiar with online learning platform and I did not know that that is what was required in UNISA. I had thought UNISA was a full time studying university. I only found out that it was not after registration. My 2018 academic year became very tough for me because at that time I was coming straight from a rural area high school with no knowledge of how to operate a computer and studying online. Hence, I missed submission dates and could not open online tests and that led me to failing the semester. In my family, my father was the only one who helped out financially. He was a taxi driver and my mother is unemployed. So we depended on dad's salary and my little brother's social grant. After failing my semester in UNISA, I lost my NSFAS funding. So I decided to apply at the University of the Free State for 2019 undergraduate degree intake.

In 2019 I got admitted in at the University of the Free State. At that time I had no funding and stressing about where I would get registration fee. I lost all hope when in that same year January ,my dad was in a car accident and was hospitalized fighting for his life. I thought to myself that if I were to lose my dad who was the breadwinner at home then I should not let this opportunity of studying slip through my hands. So I approached my dad's employer and asked if he may assist me with registration fee, luckily he gave me and I was able to register. At that moment I was faced with more troubles because I had no transport money, no room to sleep in and the money I had was not even gonna last me a months food. Fortunate enough, I met a girl during registration who was very kind to help me. She was also a first year student. She accommodated me for the whole year of 2019, payed my transport with her NSFAS allowance and shared her food with me. Because of her, I gained my hope and worked even hard on my academics. Later that same year, I reapplied for NSFAS for 2020 funding.

In 2020, I was funded by NSFAS again but still I had outstanding fees from my 2019 academic year. I got a merit bursary which I hoped was gonna settle my debt but I did not have access to it since I was already funded by NSFAS. I have used NSFAS until now on my final year but I am still having this debt which accumulates interest every month. I am scared that I won't be able to further my studies because of this debt since the university will keep my degree with them and I won't be able to have access to my certificate until I settle this debt. I have tried to apply at the University of Johannesburg but my application was declined due to non-compliance. I could not send my academic record because I do not have access to it because of this debt.
