Fundraising for Northern Lombok by Tugu Hotels

Update posted by Edward Silalahi Raja On Oct 10, 2018

Dear Friends of Tugu,

Thanks to the wonderful support and donations from guests, friends and partners, to this day, we have managed to help 140 remote evacuation camps (roundly 40,000 people) in many causes, including providing food, water, and sanitation supply, water tanks, water pumps, water filters, generator sets, tents, blankets, books, school materials for schools and many more. We have provided almost 300 public toilets for the camps, roundly 200 water containers of 550 ltr for the villages, tarp tents and materials for 100 primary schools. We are now moving to semi-permanent house project, to give them shelter for up to 1-2 years, while waiting for the house rebuilding fund that has been promised by the government.

More than 350,000 people in north Lombok are still living under tarp roof on fields and their home yards to this day, more than 2 (two) months after the earthquake happened, and the rainy season is coming very soon.

These semi-permanent housing are 3x4m2/house, some made of bamboo poles, thatched bamboo walls, and palm leaf roof, and some others of bamboo pole, kalsiboard and spandex roof, with the cost of Rp. 2,500,000/house/family. We are well on progress with our 500 first houses. Many more (there were more than 30,000 houses destroyed) need more houses for shelter, as we do not have confirmation yet regarding when the funds for the permanent houses will be available. And now with the disaster in Palu and Donggala, everyone in the villages seem to think it might take much longer until they can have these funds available and rebuild, as the attention shifted that way.

It would be great if we can build more houses for them so they have shelter in the next 6-12 months at least. Your kind help to organize these houses for these victims would be greatly appreciated!

You can help building houses for accommodations.

You can contribute to help children and parents with school materials and food & water.

You can help creating toilets.

and you can send the tarp tents for children !

We would just like to say that we have been extremely grateful with the overwhelming amount of support and the donations to help as many people as possible in north Lombok who are still in evacuation camps to this day, and for several more months. We have been focusing all our efforts on raising funds and supplies. To this day, we have helped 110 evacuation camps (30,000 people) with providing basic food and water supply, daily sanitary needs, water tanks, water pumps, water filters, generator sets, tents, books, school materials for schools and many more. With the insiders help of all our staff who are also still spread in different camps, we are managing to reach remote camps that have not been touched by much help.

The past week we have begun a couple of bigger projects: we have organized materials for traditional homes of bamboo, thatched bamboo wall and palm leaf roof for semi-permanent housing. We are also happy to report our progress with our public toilet projects for these camps- we have done 15 camps and we are looking into distributing and organizing 200 more toilets between the various camps. We are targeting to build 80 emergency schools under large tents, to help bring back routine to these children living in the camps. As of today we have done 7 emergency schools in the different villages. For those who wish to help and/or receive further updates regarding these projects, please let us know. We appreciate any help and support you could extend as we hope to do the above for more camps.
