Hi, I’m Tsewang, I come from Ripchet, a small village high up the mountainous parts of Nepal. Some of you may have heard of it, it’s located in the Tsum Valley, the epicenter of a massive 2015 earthquake.

My hometown is very small and beautiful, surrounded by lush green forests and snow-capped mountains. Everyone in my village depends on subsistence farming and herding animals (yaks, cows, goats, and oxen) for their livelihood. Needless to say, there are no public services, no electricity, no running water, no healthcare, no telephone, and no schooling.

It takes 5 days to reach Kathmandu, the first 4 days of which are spent walking along mountain trails just to get to the nearest bus stop! After a 10-hour bus ride, you finally arrive in the capital city.

I come from a large family with five older brothers. I’m the youngest, and only one who got an opportunity to go to school, thanks to my uncle. In 2004, I became a full-time boarder at the Shree Mangal Dvip Boarding School (SMD) in Kathmandu.

I soon discovered sports and fell in love with football and basketball, but being only 5 foot tall, I was better at soccer. At just 10 years old I played for the inter-school girls' football tournament, and we won.

Although I loved my sports, I was also very eager to learn and excelled in my studies. At sixteen, I was chosen as an executive member of the Student Council, responsible for bridging the gap between students and the school administrators.

But my passion for soccer was ever-present. I coached younger kids and captained the school soccer team. But I wanted so much more, so I joined the local football club where I was selected to represent the Tibetan girls football team against India and Canada. This was the first time I had ever left Nepal and the whole experience was life-changing. I felt appreciated, worthy and amazed at how this had all become possible just because of my love for soccer.

Last year I won a scholarship to finish my schooling at a Swiss private school where I’m currently completing my international baccalaureate (IB diploma). After graduating, I’d love to study Sports studies so that I can help empower women through sports and change community.

I’m hoping to get a scholarship for university, but it’s very competitive and most of the universities I’ve contacted are only prepared to offer a half scholarship. So I’ve decided to start raising money to make it possible to realize my dreams. If you are able to assist me with a small donation, I would be most grateful. Thank you.

Message from the Sponsor

Tsewang and Pemi, two bright Nepalese students, came to stay with us in August 2017 to do their International Baccalaureate (IB) at the Inter-Community School in Zumikon. As host parents, we've grown to love these two girls as our own.

Next year, Tsewang would love to study Sports Management at Amsterdam University of Applied Science, but in order to make this possible she needs to raise EUR19,724 to cover

  • her first year’s tuition (8,144 pa),
  • accommodation (650 pm),
  • food (350 pm) and
  • sundry services (65 pm).

If you would like to be a part of her success story, please make a donation to help her realise her dreams. Every bit will help and I just know she will be a great success.

All donations received are paid directly into Tsewang's PayPal or bank account.
