Trish’s funding for 6 week medical internship in Colombia

Hello everyone
Having an opportunity to entering a medical field is

wonderful for me. Unlike other people who realized their dream career

since they were young, I was left wondering what I want to do with my

life until my junior year in high school. I do not want to follow my

parent's path of becoming a pharmacist because I want to have more

interact with people and take care for them until they get well. Back

then, even though I was young but I do know (or force to accept) what

death is. I was always get mad and frustrated about the healthcare

system of my home country for not able to heal and save people. Until I

got to study in America as a US citizen, I understand the career is a

lifelong commitment and once I started the path I must stay until I

finished. However I wasn't given much opportunity to observe by the

doctor's side (but I was fortunate to observe how things work in a lab

setting by scientists' side for a year) of how healthcare works, how the

healing process and saving someone's lives during critical period work.

Thanks to InternGroup I was accepted to the program to practice by the

doctor side for 3 months in Colombia starting in February. My plan is to

get more hands-on experience in the medical settings, experience real

life-and-death situation (brace myself) to see if I can fit in the

medical field. Unfortuantely, I don't have that much financial aid to

cover my entire trip. If there's any help I get I'd really appreciate as

it opens a new door for me. In exchange, if you want, I can talk about

my experience I have abroad, how the healthcare system is differently

compared to the U.S and how beneficial it is for premed students when I

got back.
