Hey everyone! I really wanted to do something different as part of turning 25 this year as I realised I can offer more to help others. I have decided to travel to Africa by myself to volunteer at a local school in Tanzania to teach English for 2 weeks :) I want to make a positive difference to somebody else's life and this would be an eye opening, life experience for myself also.
Tanzania remains one of the world’s poorest economies in terms of per capita income and they are in short supply of English speaking teachers in their schools. As I can't go for very long due to work commitments, I wanted to offer an extended helping hand for the cause by raising some money alongside volunteering.
My target is £500 and every single penny of that will go towards the Arusha community including schools and also towards classroom equipment for lessons. I am hoping to incorporate some fun art/crafty educational lessons being from a textile design background. The money raised will also go towards games and toys which can be appreciated by the children even after my visit. Donations WILL NOT fund any of my personal expenses for travelling/accommodation/work permit etc as I believe fundraising should go directly to the cause.
Plan my Gap Year is an international volunteer placement organisation based in the UK and offer child care, medical and English teaching programmes. They work with local communities in the developing world to actualise long-term sustainable goals. They work in various developing countries such as Nepal, Ghana, Delhi, Cambodia etc- I feel that my first volunteering trip could be the start of something truly rewarding that I would like to do in life alongside my career.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and please donate to help make a difference!
