Dear friends, many of you are aware about my wife’s health challenges but I'd like to share a status update and the reason behind this campaign. Fow over 7 years, Pili has been a patient at the Pain and Palliative care Clinic in Costa Rica. During this time, many tests and medical exams have been made along with pain treatment to alleviate the terrible head and facial pain she's been suffering and that has incapacitated her until today, due to an occlusion problem that has been pressuring her facial nerves. Unfortunately, 4 years ago she underwent a surgery to block the trigeminal nerve but there was a Mal Praxis that worsened the situation instead of bringing relief. It was also found that there is cervical and occlusal wear, along with shoulder and back complications due to the occlusion problem.
To bring economical relief, we decided to move to Guatemala and over the last few years we have been working hard to provide all the medications Pili needs even though we know this is not a permanent solution and just a way to give her some quality of life.
The last 6 months have been particularly hard and challenging for us as a family because Pili's pain has worsened and even though we've continued working with her pain doctor in Costa Rica, he has prescribed medications that are hard to get here in Guatemala because of our migratory status. We also have come to a point where there's no way around it: Pili urgently needs the reconstruction of her mouth since the bad position of her jaws have caused the loss and break of many dental pieces. After this, the surgery would be the next step that will allow her to regain her life that she's lost over the last years.
Many of you know Pili's heart and how she's been fighting this situation with joy and faith, while serving God and others despite the great physical pain and mental fatigue. We believe God will use many of you as instruments to change this incapacitating situation. It's not just about raising funds but also about uniting as friends and family to bring quality of life for Pili.
This campaign was created to raise the funds needed to cover the surgery expenses, medications that Pili requires daily from now until the surgery day, and whatever is needed for after care. We’re working with a group of medical experts in various areas (maxillofacial, pain and palliative care, neurological and neurosurgeon) and we trust that with God's guidance, we will see Pili recovering soon! We really appreciate your support! Feel free to reach out if you would like to know more.
With best regards, Adrian and Pili.
