Campaign Story
Curatorial Statement : This is an exhibition to showcase the bravery and transcendence
of transgender people
Trans is a prefix for change. For example:
Transfer means changing of location from one place to another
Transport means changing of objects from one place to another
Transform means change of objects from one form to another
Under this context, transgender means change of gender from one to another. They are
people with physical needs to redefine their gender assigned at birth.
Trans also means beyond. For example:
Translucent means allowing light to pass through and go beyond
Transcend means raising beyond limits or triumph over the negative aspects
Transgender people are brave people. Transcendence is the best word to describe them.
They dare to go beyond their assigned gender and define their own. They are free
people and free souls with unlimited possibilities.
Through a curated art presentation with a combination of photos, videos and write-ups
first launched in social media followed by a physical exhibition afterwards, we hope to
widen the imagination and horizon of our audience on their understanding of the gender
spectrum, thus opening new rooms for more constructive dialogue on gender issues and
rectification of hearsay information about transgender people.
Project Inspiration:
In October 2018, Association of World Citizens Hong Kong China completed the
production of the movie “A Woman Is A Woman”. A charity show of the movie was
organized by HER Fund and sponsored by Linklaters on November 2, 2018 with
tremendous success. Since then, the movie was officially selected for screening by 14
International Film Festivals. Besides, the Association has also started screening of the
movie with post screening discussions. Our aim is to penetrate all layers of the Hong
Kong Community to improve the public understanding of Hong Kong people towards
transwomen. The art show is part of an 8-month campaign to drive the appetite of the
community to watch the movie. Without this, it would be much harder to attract people
to watch the movie to achieve the ultimate objectives of producing the movie.
