About the Wall Art Mural Project

As part of our 60th Birthday Celebration in 2017, Tranby has launched Wall Art Mural Project, an Indigenous On-Campus Art Gallery and an online Art Auction https://tranby.edu.au/auctions/. The overarching theme of the project is community. It is our hope that this project will reunite past Tranby students, unite future Tranby students, and help us connect to the wider community. It is a project that celebrates all the achievements that our walls have witnessed throughout the years.

Our wall art mural project serves two purposes. Firstly, we believe that the artwork will bring new life to our campus, helping students to feel connected and inspired. Students who attend Tranby come from all over Australia and attend classes in week long blocks. As you can image, it can be difficult for students to be away from their families, friends, and communities for extended periods and we strive to make our campus as welcoming and comfortable as possible. We believe that these murals will make our campus more welcoming and will directly benefit the wellbeing of the students we serve and facilitate their education.

Secondly, we want to provide opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to develop their portfolios and express their ideas. We are a community that seeks to benefit, sustain, and support the wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We hope that through this project, we can reach out to the community, join forces, and together make a difference in the lives of our students.

About Tranby

Tranby was the first independent Aboriginal education provider in Australia. We began delivering training programs in response to community needs in 1958. Early courses based on trades and literacy and numeracy expanded to Advanced Diploma and Diploma courses written by community for community.

Today Tranby offers courses that are nationally recognised units of competency from the Australian Quality Framework. These courses are tailored to meet the specific needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and organisations.

An essential part of Tranby’s philosophy and success is that of Indigenous ownership and management . We seek to empower the lives of our people and build strong communities through quality education and sustainable practices.

Our purpose is clear: educate, achieve, and empower.
