This campaign is to fund the concreting of our yard and also to survive the most horrendous winter ever which has caused more harm to the yard plus we are feeding double the amount we normally do with the cold wet constant weather in the uk at the moment. The yard has suffered years of abuse from herds of feral horses and old/infirm horses needing special care. The cost of a square metre is approx £5 we also need 500 blocks to build the inside of the stables. These cost £1.50 each. Bales are £30 each and we put out ten twice a week plus 90% of horses are on hard feed until Spring. The total cost we are anticipating to be around £2250. If you can only afford one block, we will appreciate this as much as someone that affords ten as it's one less brick in the wall!!!!! Equally to feed a horse is a wonderful thing that saves lives just as offering a home to a horse !
Now a little about us
Trallwm Farm Sanctuary is in Wales and prides itself on helping difficult to place horses. Those that will arrive with a torturous story of neglect and cruelty, who need to hide from the world for extensive rehab before being given the chance of a wonderful loan home where they will be loved as a once in a lifetime horse.
We have had Lippizaners, knabstruppers to Shires and llamas who were just misunderstood until they found people who were qualified to soothe their fears and put them back into life at the level they would have been if their lives hadn't gone off the rails.
Some times horses have to stay a long time due to neglect and cruelty and so we cannot identify them nor tell the world about them although we would like to share the injustice of what has happened to them.
We geld all stallions and colts and spend fortunes on wormers, delicer and mostly good food to get weight back onto emaciated horses .
Some horses are physically abused. We have one that has acid burns all over him aged just 3 yrs old. We took in a horse that emergency services were called to as he had " jumped" off a motorway bridge which actually goes against nature for a horse to do by itself. We have foals whose mothers had died and were left to fend for themselves. For these little ones we have a 35 yr old mare who patiently adopts them and they grow up with no idea they are not hers by birth.
We are the ones who take in disturbed tortured horses and often we cannot even talk about them. We get them happy and well and work with the help of a qualified equine psychologist and a qualified behaviourist to build them a future where they can trust, they will never be harmed again.
We need to fund day to day costs for these horses plus build stables within a barn to provide better accommodation which is safe for humans to work enclosed with a frightened horse in the early days of arrival.
We also welcome good, vetted homes. We cannot do all this without help and we would have to show each horse in order to attract attention for each horses plight which often we cannot do. So by keeping horses safe we limit our ability to fundraise to provide for that horses care
