Hi, Toulouse is my two and half year old Dachshund/Silky Terrier mix. My husband and I adopted him from the Humane society in August of 2012 to become a part of our family. He became our beloved little man and the brother to our corgi mix, Zia (who also came from the Humane Society)! The first day I adopted Toulouse I took him to the vet and found out he had a heart murmur. Luckily, he's doing well so far and hasn't had to go on medication. The past year he's been a huge (although tiny in size) joy to us! Always wagging his tail, curled up in our laps or playing with his sister. He's our little sweetheart!
Unfortunately, about a month ago he started crying quite often, sometimes even screaming. After taking him to the vet and having x-rays, we discovered Toulouse has major calcification between the disks in his back, and some disks have no space between them. We tried medication for a few weeks (which he is still on) but determined today that he will need to meet with the surgeon so he can get a final evaluation and schedule the surgery. They are still not quite sure how extensive the surgery will be, but they do have a price: $2500! Eek!
My husband and I are confident we can swing about $500 of that, but aren't sure what to do about the rest. Toulouse is such a precious part of our lives and we can't bear to part with him. The doctor has assured us that once he has surgery and recovers (after about 4 months) he'll be back to normal and live a healthy life. Our little man is only 2 and 1/2! His extreme back condition is rare in a dog as young as him, but unfortunately it's there nonetheless.
Please help us raise the money to fix our little guy. We want him back on his feet, healthy and free of pain. If you can't donate, we just want to thank you for taking the time to read this. Please spread the word and say a prayer for Toulouse!
Thanks,
Xan

I lost my sweet cat Lyle this summer due to his various ailments, and after reading this I couldn't help but be upset by this news. I hope Toulouse gets this surgery and becomes healthy again. Our pets are too precious.
