Before you fund me, how about you get to know me a little better...

I've been selected to take part in the Genius Science Olympiad which takes place in Rochester, New York, in June this year.

Last September, I won the title of Top Junior Scientist at the Eskom International Science Fair which was held in Joburg. I won a bunch of awards actually, best development; best in category of engineering and most prestigious project in electrical engineering.

I created a traffic light system that has "smart" capabilities. This enables it to relay a message to technicians notifying them when a light is faulty (pretty helpful right). The system is also environmentally friendly, and uses both solar and wind power, which also ensures that traffic lights operate 100% of the time!

I was unfortunately not selected by Eskom on a sponsored trip to an overseas fair. I had worked really hard to achieve this, and giving up is never an option. I entered my project into SA-YESS (South African Youth Science and Engineering Symposium) in November last year. Finally my goal of being selected for an overseas fair was achieved. The only downside... it's self-funded!

So if you have any extra Rands, and would like to help me make my way to New York, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance,

Abigail Bloem (Grade 10 - Eunice High School)
