"WE DON'T KNOW HOW STRONG WE REALLY ARE, UNTIL BEING STRONG IS THE ONLY CHOICE WE HAVE.

July , the month of Sarcoma Awareness.

Our little brother was diagnosed with Sarcoma July 7, 2019. The date that will burned our minds for the rest of our lives that took a sudden change of course.

Let's go back to the time before he was diagnosed with Sarcoma. Janmark Verona Anam-Anam, 19 years old, in his 1st year of College in UCLM is a cheerful young man with additional pleasing personality. Aside from his looks, he has the types of features - young girls would tell. He's doing basketball everyday as it was his mode of exercise.

Until one day, month of May, he was complaining of his left knee. We thought it was just normal because of his basketball games he does everyday. The following days, it began to swell and we decided to go to the nearest Hospital UCMED for a check-up. We were told to let my brother undergo MRI of his left knee to check if there was a problem. Result came and it was negative of any problem. All were normal.

Again, he was complaining of back pain down to his foot, his whole left leg started to swell. So we went to the hospital for another checkup for his left leg June 13, 2019. We were told to undergo MRI for the Lumbar spine. The next morning, we received the MRI results and the doctor accidentally captured his Pelvis has a Pelvic Mass Measuring at 13x15cm that was possibly Malignant. We were shocked at the news and was wondering what was the reason that caused it. Before we left, the doctor advised to Admit him as soon as possible so that they can perform further Laboratory tests. We were devastated since we don’t have the enough money to cover for the hospital bill and tests and we've decided to have him transfer at Public Hospital S. The doctor in UCMed then forwarded Janmak for a Charity surgery at Public Hospital S, since we don’t have enough funds for his surgery. A series of blood tests and laboratories were performed and was advised to have a CT Scan on his Pelvic to monitor and see further outcome of his tumor, we were waiting for a schedule for his CT Scan but since the hospital has so many patients and maybe also lack of equipments we have to wait then. 1 week gone by and still to no avail for that scan and Janmark was already complaining even more about the pain that he is enduring. He was slowly getting skinnier from day to day that we were also worried that the tumor would affect his other organs. We have gathered a small amount of money for his surgery and decided that he should have the operation ASAP.

So then we decided to transfer him back to UCMed for immediate treatment. We were billed at 31 thousand pesos at Public Hospital S even though he was in a Philhealth ward and no discount was even given to us. Some of you might be wondering why we had to transfer when we should have been given a free treatment for Janmark, Yes under a Public Hospital you may be given free services but it will not be totally covered and we have no time to waste. Back in UCMed a CT Scan and MRI was already performed and a series of laboratory tests as well. Day to day Janmark is suffering and complaining about the soreness, that he had to take doses of meds to ease up the pain. Another week gone by and the Doctors informed us that Janmark’s case is very rare, is one in a million and that they need to perform a Biopsy Procedure to get sample tissues from his tumor, our family is weakened about the news that his mass had grown bigger from 13x15cm it is now 15x20cm and is already a cancer called SARCOMA - A type of CANCER that develops and eats the bones and nearby tissues and worse can spread to the lungs and blood.

As of this moment Janmark can no longer walk or even sit up straight due to the endured back pain. He is now skinnier than before. Today July 16, 2019 the 2nd Biopsy Procedure was performed since the 1st one have only few samples to determine the cancer stage, we are still waiting for the results and the doctor advised he should have a catheter for his urinal and informed us about the possibilities of having a Chemo Therapy before undergoing an operation to shrink the tumor into a smaller one and to have it easily removed.

To tell you honestly we don’t know what will be the outcome of the chemo if his body can take the treatment since it could bring up many side effects and if the operation will be a successful one. We didn’t expect that it would come to this, our healthy very sporty brother will be sick with SARCOMA Cancer and had to go through this pain. If we can only take his pain away in just one snap like what Thanos did in Avengers, we would have done it already. I know I still have to fill in humour since we are already weeping by writing this. We wished that this is only a bad dream that we will wake up tomorrow and Janmark will be Okay already, wish it could be as simple as that. We all are already affected with this trial and we could not do it alone.

So WE, Our Family asks your help and is knocking in your kind hearts for financial and spiritual help for Janmark. If one Can Share this to people, Organizations, LGUs, Politicians or even Private individuals or any kind of charity we would really appreciate it and May God Bless your hearts and Souls.

As of this moment Janmark is confined in UCMED Room 913. His Attending Doctors are Dr. Pierre M. Mella and Dr. Rick Belarmino. We would gladly appreciate help from any one. Thank you so much for reading and Please Pray for Janmark’s fast recovery. Till the next update for the results soon."

  • Prayer for you and your family. Hi! I happen to read your story tru social sites, i feel sorry for him and your family. I know how devastated it is to know the kind of illness he suffered. My intention to send you my message is to let you know that my husband who is 35y.o and yes we also lived in Cebu happen to have the same case with him. My suggestion is to please continue his treatment to a private hospital. My husband undergone Surgery last Dec 2018 in Sotto Hospital to avail a less and or zero payment due to lack of resources. The surgery did not went well they only took 10% of the tumor on his left pelvic area and knowing Doctors from public hospital caters many patients the less supervisions we have from them make the tumor got worse. After his surgery last Dec we finally got their advise to have him undergo Radiation and so we did but it fail after his 26th session of radiation the CT Scan result shows the tumor is still growing. Now we are preparing for his 3rd cycle of Chemoterapy and praying that this time it will work. Do not lose hope and always for his pain he suffer everyday. I hope and pray for you and your family. God bless.
