Campaign Story
Tomey was just a
measly 2 months old kitten when he was spotted near NUS (National
University of Singapore) dentistry faculty, hiding under a car. His cute
little pink nose gave him away.
Little did our volunteer
feeders know that this little baby came with a huge gaping wound on his
front left paw and it had festered beyond recognition. In a bid to get
him to safety, everyone scrambled to bring him to the vet.
An
X-ray was done shortly and it showed that his front paw had fragmented
into many parts, there was no way the vet could fix that up thus the
decision was made for amputation.
Scenario 1: We
amputate now, he might not survive the operation. We were faced with the
decision to euthanise him, as strongly urged by the vet.
Scenario 2: We nurse him till he is a lot older then send for
amputation but the risk is that his wound might turn septic and he
might succumb to his infection.
Right now, we are
waiting on the prognosis of another vet to determine if we should carry
out scenario 1 or 2. We are leaning towards 2 as it sounds like the
safer option while being mindful about his injured paw. He’s on a heavy
course of antibiotics to keep the infection at bay and should we opt for
option 2, he will be discharged and fostered at home.
His
medical bills will be piling up. We are only students who chanced upon
this kitten, thus we find it hard to finance the operation.
There is no way we can abandon him.
We are appealing to the kind hearts of everyone to let us fight this
good fight with Reiki. At least, to give him a chance at being a healthy
kitty again.
What options does Tomey have?
- Euthanasia - Death
- Surgery and Treatment - Costly
What are the possible causes to this type of injury?
- Tomey's paw might have been ran over by a car tyre as he loves hiding there.
How fast do we need to make a decision? How long do we have to raise the money?
- If immediate surgery is required, about SGD $2k is needed by 1-2 weeks.
What is Tomey given now? (Antibiotics, IV fluids etc.)
- X-ray is done , antibiotics and painkiller are given.
- X-ray showed paws are smashed/crushed.
A Donor List will be created to recognise the charitable efforts of every kind samaritan.
Additional funds will be contributed to our Trap, Neuter, Release and feeding programme, to be used to improve the welfare of the community cats in Singapore.
