Ghana:
IT skills are becoming more and more vital to employment in this developing country.

IT education forms the most fundamental faculty one should have even before seeking  a job. We want to increase people's job prospects by giving them basic IT skills.

My Cause:

With the support of Travellers Worldwide and/or  WWH - Worldwide Helpers, in March 2014 I ll be teaching basic ICT skills to unpriviledged children and adults for 1-4 weeks.

The project is based in the suburbs of Accra and this fundraiser is to cover accommodation, transport and subsistence costs during my journey.

I urge you to think that these children and adults don't have the latest iPhone, iPad or send tweets to their mates. Teaching basic ICT skills to these people could mean a huge step towards a job, a career, a better life.

For over a decade I have been academically studying and professionally working within the IT industry, I guess now is time to share a little of the hard earned knowledge to these children so they can have a future just a little better.

The next Steve Jobs could be in that class! Who knows eh?

 A traditional Day:

The work is carried out in an IT centre in a poor area of Ghana's capital city, Accra.
Regular IT lessons take place at this centre for both local school children and adults within the wider community. As in less advantaged countries everywhere, your help is very deeply appreciated. The School only has about dozen very basic computers so it’s not unusual to find 3-4 pupils to one computer, especially when teaching the children.

I may find myself teaching packages such as: Word, Excel, Access, Office, Power point or Paint, Graphic design, Hardware and networking including web page designing above all.

Project Organisers:

I have two options for this and it really depends on how much I can raise.

1) http://www.travellersworldwide.com/ Costs around £800 accomodation, flights, transport,  food and orientation support over a 2 week teaching.

2) http://www.worldwidehelpers.org/index.php Costs are lower however volunteers pay for flights and a fee for utility bills, food and essentials whilst staying with a host local family. (minimal of 4 weeks)

Donations:

Simple, all money raised goes towards funding this project.

When:

During the month of March 2014
