Hi all

Today we’d like to talk about our dear friend and colleague, Jannie Cloete, who literally spends his life taking care of everybody else, before he takes care of himself, and always puts his family first.

Jannie has spent his life making people’s biggest dreams come true – working tirelessly, on long contracts, aboard ships, to make each and every one of our holidays exceed all expectations. For those of us who work on Jannie’s team, on every ship, in every venue, and in every corner of the globe, he has gone out of his way to make us all feel special, appreciated, and part of the great puzzle of success – each piece as important as the next. His voice over a PA System, with his lovely South African accent, mesmerizes us all with the promise of discovery and adventure around every corner. The ‘ devil is in the detail’ he will say, making sure every critical part of a trip we take with Jannie, has been meticulously researched.

BUT, Jannie is not only the Cruise Director, or boss, he is and becomes, an incredibly loyal friend, who seems to have an endless ‘tray of favours’ to hand out, and kindness beyond measure, to always go the extra mile and always give all he has – taking on contract after contract over the years, with hardly any time off, to support his family too.

Jannie is probably thee most resourceful person I know, who functions even in disaster and finishes in style….almost always……..because today no matter how much experience, resources, and even with the biggest team, Jannie is unable to ‘fix’ his sisters medical condition & deteriorating situation. This is one of those times we realise just how fragile we really are.

Today we’re thinking of that great Beatles Song ‘With a little help from my friends’ because today our dear friend and colleague, Jannie, needs us for a change, to help his sister!.

Here is Anna-Rentia, Jannie's sister's story right now….

Everyone who knows Anna-Rentia or ‘Poplap’ as many of you call her, can testify that she is not only a wonderful, doting mother to her Michael and Emma, but also takes care of their granny, her and Jannie’s dear Mom. Anne is the sole breadwinner in their household and after being retrenched, and realising that Jannie could not support all of them forever, and with jobs few and far between in our South Africa, Anne buckled down and recently started her own business, doing what she loves……. cooking and baking wholesome, home-made food and selling at local markets. The business was just starting to take on a positive trend, with regular orders coming in, and people returning to the markets to buy from her again and again, when Covid 19 hit us all with a full lockdown here in South Africa, commencing, 26 March; and although things have opened up almost to 95% in our country now in November, nothing is as it was.

Anne has carried on with her orders throughout lockdown, with family & friends doing deliveries. Orders were just starting to pick up and more of the local markets started ‘opening up’ again, when Anne suffered excruciating pain and was rushed to hospital to find she had a ‘perforated colon’.

Anne is presently in ICU and has been there over 2 weeks now, with a number of very serious complications including her diabetes, and now a horrible lung infection. Her medical aid has covered some of the costs, but there is already an increasing shortfall and although she is stable for now, her Doctors require that she gains her strength back before they can do her much needed surgery. Every day she is in ICU, the medical bills are mounting.

While Anne is ‘fighting’ in hospital, the ‘troops’ have been ‘rallying’ at home – Young Emma – all of 16 years old, is cooking the recipes she has already learned from her Mommy, and Michael, Granny, dear Eben Otto and friends are helping where they can. Household expenses are piling up without Anne at the helm, and many bills were already in arrears as a result of Covid. Jannie is literally ‘stuck’ in Miami, Florida, having been in quarantine for the last 14 days.

Anne ‘Poplap’ Cloete remains incredibly strong and positive, longing for the day she can be home with her Michael & Emma and her Mommy.

We know that this year has been full of struggle and hardship which has impacted us all, so if you can donate to help, with this dire and worsening financial situation, please do.

Any amount to help Anne and her family would be greatly appreciated.

It is difficult to determine the amount required with the long road of recovery ahead and additional procedures she needs, not to mention daily expenses on the home-front and school fees which will be due soon.

This wonderful platform ‘GoGetFunding’ asks for a goal, so we’re setting the goal at R250 000 which is around U$16 500.Please follow the links.

Thank you to all for the love and support so far – we will do our best to keep you updated.
