Campaign Story
From the bottom of my heart I ask for your support to enable my nephew in Kenya undergo a cancer treatment.
His name is James but we just call him Daki. He is 25 years old. A year ago he was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes. I was very much touched by his fate as it is one we both share.
He started his treatment last autumn and while on a trip to Kenya in May this year, Franklin (my husband) and I spent some time with him. He had just finished his therapy and was confident of a future without cancer. He treated us to a lovely day at the Nairobi National Park in his old red Subaru and we happened to observe a pack of lions hunting a Buffalo!
Unfortunately for Daki, the joy of having fought the cancer did not last long. A check up in July showed that tumors were back. Despite the sad news, Daki has a strong will to live and believes he will overcome. He reminded me of the day at the National Park and how the Buffalo cornered by the lions was able to fight its way out and lived to see another day.
Daki’s only chance for a future is an expensive and high risk treatment, which he is determined to undergo, if only he managed to raise the required funds.
The Treatment
Daki needs a series of high dose chemotherapies followed by a stem cell transplant. It is a very risky procedure that is not offered in any Kenyan hospital. The treatment would have to be done in India at one of the few hospitals that provide the infrastructures needed.
The Cost
The estimated cost for the whole treatment is 80’000 CHF. It is extremely frustrating that the insurance company helping cover treatment cost before has now termed Daki’s condition as “pre-existing” and declined to offer further assistance. Daki and immediate family have this far raise 20’000 CHF.
It is on this premise that Daki, Franklin and I sincerely ask for your support. No amount is too small to contribute. And if you are touched by Daki’s story please feel free to share it with your friends.
We truly appreciate your help.
Antonia, Franklin and Daki
