Thank you for stopping by my fundraiser page! I’m a 20 year old undergraduate nursing student in New York City. In the spring of 2020, I am hoping to travel to Iceland for a study abroad course focusing on the reason Iceland is one of the happiest and healthiest countries in the world.

I am currently writing a research paper about maternal mortality in developed countries, which all have a very low maternal mortality rate, except for the United States. This is the case even though the United States spends trillions on our healthcare system. On the other hand, Iceland spends significantly less, yet it boasts healthier births and postpartum life, making it a perfect model to compare with the United States. During this trip, I will be consulting with government officials and health care agencies in order to understand the reasoning behind the large discrepancy of maternal mortality rates between the two countries and what lessons can be learned for the United States.

In addition to meeting with government officials and health care agencies, I will be meeting with the University of Iceland’s sociologists and political scientists to discuss topics including income inequality, political system and the great Icelandic banking collapse of 2008.

Unfortunately, because it is outside of the academic school year, the cost of the trip is immense, nearly $5000 for the course ($3000), airfare ($500 to $700) and a course travel fee ($1250). No donation is too small and would be greatly appreciated.
