To set up a sailing center in Limassol

Dear Sirs,

We are an island of approximately 800,000 people and only less than 1% are familiar with sailing and generally with the sea and its elements.

That is why I came up with a project idea of mine. Purpose of this project is to set up a club for those who already had some contact with sailing and introduce it to that majority of people who would like to familiarize themselves with it.

Attract young people and bring back ex-athletes that have taken a break from sailing. Through my volunteering field in sailing, I have some across a lot of people expressing interest in either competitive or leisure sailing. People with the eagerness to learn as long as they are given the opportunity.

Most nautical clubs on our island are focused mostly on water sports since the funding of the government is not sufficient to support any other activities. And as a result, many athletes that want to participate in championships have to sponsor themselves if they wish to represent our country in the national and international events, bring more medals to our island, like Pavlos Kontides did recently in the Olympic games.

The idea of starting the sailing club I have envisioned, is to be able to provide exactly what these athletes and young people need. To provide them with high standards of sailing knowledge, adequate facilities to train at and the necessary tools to achieve their dreams.

Personally, being sailing for more than 23 years, being highly active with volunteering in ALL national races on the island, holder of the “World Sailing Technical Course for Coaches Level 2” and recognized by World Sailing Association as a “Senior Instructor”, member of the protest committee of CYSAF (Cyprus Sailing Federation) and licensed measurer from CYSAF with the signature number CYP 5.

Furthermore I have participated in 2 world championships, 1 European and 1 “master” sailing competition, as well as participating in the Cyprus National championships as Race official, coach of the racing team of Paphos Nautical Club (2013 – 2015), Larnaca Nautical Club (2015) and the academy of beginners of Kyrenia Nautical club (2012) with various achievements.

The amount I am looking as a startup is 30,000 EUR, which is what I believe is required in order to be provided with the needed equipment, become a self-depended club and gradually grow through the years.

Rest assure that your contribution besides being highly appreciated will be well known since on all of our sails and boats we will place your logo and company brand name. Flags and banners will also be all over the club as well.
