To help raise support for Mark and his young family

Update posted by Yolanda Topp On Apr 27, 2017

Today is my last day visiting Mark in Kuwait as it looks like the ball is in motion for Mark to head back to South Africa hopefully with a flight out on Monday.

It's been a tough journey for Mark thus far and he is eager to return back home to see his wife and two little boys.

Mark has received a verbal prognosis and has been informed that he has Stage 2 multiple myeloma. He has decided to start treatment back in South Africa where he will be surrounded by family and friends.

Thank you to absolutely everyone who has taken the time to donate towards Mark's fund and for all the well wishes.

A special shout out and thank you to Steve Saffin and Russell Friend for all your help and support. You have both been amazing through all of this and your efforts and ongoing support have been greatly appreciated. Can't thank you both enough for making the trip possible and for accommodating me whilst I visited Mark in Kuwait.

arks has had all his stitches taken out yesterday from his spinal surgery and has now been moved across to the Kuwait Cancer centre. They have taken blood samples today and will be running tests over the next couple of days to determine what stage of Multiple myeloma he is at. Mark is still in good spirits and is keeping a good positive attitude which is half the battle.

Thank you again for all your donations, love and support for Mark 💕

Some great news! Mark should be transferred from the specialist orthopedic hospital this coming weekend and will then move across to the Kuwait Cancer centre hospital where they will run more tests and scans before Mark is MED-EVAC back to South Africa hopefully by the end of next week. He has been doing brilliantly with his physio as his main motivation has been to get back home to his wife Cezanne and young boys Conner and Luke before he starts the dreaded treatment to fight this terrible disease. #positiveattitude

Cezanne spoke to Mark this morning. He is in immense pain after what was an incredibly long procedure. The surgeons placed a rod and pins in Marks back and did the decompression surgery which was drilling into the spine to relieve pressure. They also had to reconstruct Marks lower vertebrae with a metal cage as it had disintegrated so badly that he was at risk of severing his spinal cord. He is out of ICU and will be in the hospital ward for 5 days before he is moved across to the treatment centre in Kuwait City to start his chemo. Understandably he is feeling very low post op and struggling with what can only be described as unbearable pain. Please keep him in your thoughts and please share his page as his recovery with be a long process. Thank you to everyone for your warm wishes, donations and for simply keeping Mark and his family in your thoughts 💕💕

Marks work colleague/friend went to the hospital around 5 this afternoon and he was still in surgery 😞 so he left details for them to contact him as he had to return back to base. He’s been informed that it was a long operation but successful and Mark will be kept in ICU overnight for observation and then hopefully moved back to the cancer treatment centre tomorrow, but no more news than that until tomorrow morning 😞 xx

Spoke to Mark this morning. He is experiencing a lot of spasms and struggling to move/sit. The good news is that the operation has now been confirmed for tomorrow morning 7am (Kuwait time). Follow his operation he will be moved back to the cancer treatment centre/hospital and they will start treatment immediately. They expect at least a two week recovery period before he can be safely transported via a medical air ambulance back to South Africa. Please keep Mark in your prayers and thoughts xx

Update from today: Mark was scheduled for a spinal tap release this morning at 9 to release the pinched nerves in his back that is causing him to loose feeling over his upper body and legs, but unfortunately it was cancelled due to the fact that there was not enough blood with the correct antibodies that he need. We are not sure when they will re-schedule, he is seeing the doctors in the morning to discuss it. They were going to move him back to the other hospital where he was at the oncology ward after the op to start chemo and radiation. We will have more info tomorrow regarding treatment. Thank you for all your love and caring ♡♡

Saturday 1st April Tomorrow they will move Mark to Razi hospital and Monday carry out radial spinal decompression surgery. The specialist surgeon does not believe he needs to have any vertebrae fused which is really good news so it’s a matter of relieving any pressure on the spinal cord. They also want to carry out some chemo and radio therapy....

Mark We have never met but obviously I have heard all about your news through your wonderful sister Yolanda. I can't imagine what you are going through, but I do hope that this small donation will in some way help towards your recovery and for some relief from the pressures of financing treatment and your care. If Yolanda is anything to go by the positivity and the love surrounding you will see you through even the darkest times. Here's wishing you the very best outcome for your treatment and for a swift recovery. I'll be sending all my healing thoughts your way. Take Care Mark.
