Problem Statement:

The Irulas are the pre Dravidian inhabitants of the scrub Jungles of Southern India. Hunter- gathers by tradition, their expertise in catching snakes is legendary. Prior to the Indian wildlife protection Act of 1972 , the irulas were one of the leading suppliers of snake skins to the global exotic skin Industry. So successful were they that the hunting of snakes for their skins was eventually banned in 1972 to prevent the local extinction of several species. This deprived them of their main source of livelihood and initially the outlook for these skilled hunters was bleak.

In our project area, Thatchambadi and Kannigapuram, Thiruvannamalai District of Tamil nadu, INDIA. There are 50 Irulas families are living .They are lived in a Huts with minimum wages by doing collecting woods and catching Rats. Most of them are living as watcher in the brick making places and quarries. Basically they don’t have rights like living, education and consume medical facilities. They don’t have a voter ID , Ration card and any other identity card to show their citizenship in India. They comes under the ST( sheduled Tribe)The income of the family is about Rs.60. Their earnings should not sufficient of their livelihood. The real problem starts here. They are struggling to educate their children. They should not provide the basic needs such as Soap, oil, Dress, hair cutting and Medical needs. Their children are living in a critical condition as like as the ordinary children. They should not meet the basic educational needs. Their family situation should not allow them to continue their education.
