Campaign Story
I respond to the name Cain Dube, thank you for taking your time to read my inspirational story which l hope will also motivate you as my prospective donor. I believe everyone has somehow encountered problems in their life and l believe that it takes a special kind to outmanoeuvre the challenges. I do not think that my story is unique, there is definitely someone out there who has once encountered similar challenges as mine, what l believe is unique is how l have dealt with the challenges bedevilling me.
I am a hardworking 25 year old individual who demands nothing but perfection from himself. I have always set the bar high for myself and l have always felt like my vision is bigger than the bigger picture. What has always been my greatest motivator is my poor background and l refuse to let my poor background to dictate my future. My academic journey has not been easy to traverse because of lack of finances. In 2018 l was lucky to have been granted an opportunity to go to university in order to pursue my law degree. Having spent almost all my life in Zimbabwe my home country, it was high time l spread my wings and showcase my academic prowess. I knew the very moment l embarked in that bus heading to South Africa that it was going to be a journey filled with a lot of hurdles but what l held on dearly to was the big dream l had of becoming a Lawyer. My uncle had promised to cover my fees when l got to South Africa but when l got there tables turned and l was forced to fend for myself.
In order to survive l was doing odd jobs and l had my friends supporting me in whatever way they could. Often times people opine that university years are one’s best years but for me it was quiet the opposite because of the struggles l encountered. I found myself sleeping on top of library chairs because l did not have accommodation. The money l got from doing odd jobs was not enough to cover my accommodation. I tried numerous times to apply for bursaries but nothing came out of this largely because of my nationality. In the midst of the challenges l was encountering l ensured that l excelled in my academics, passing both my degrees with an average of more than 65 % and l was awarded the Dean’s list award ( an award that recognises the top 10% students). In 2020 l attained my first degree, BA (Law and International Relations) in University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, but unfortunately l was not able to graduate because l was owing the university a lot of money.
The fact that l was owing the university a lot of money did not deter me from embarking on a journey of attaining my second degree. In 2022 l attained my second degree which is Bachelor of Laws (HONS) in the same university. I am suppose to graduate in 2023 but unfortunately l cannot be able to because l am still owing the university money for fees. I am kindly asking for donation from you so that l can be able to graduate. It always hurts me when l ponder about the fact that l was able to attain two degrees despite the challenges l faced but l cannot even graduate so that l can be able to be a lawyer. Your donation will go a long way, not only will your donation be assisting me but it will also be assisting people who will benefit from my success. Your contribution will be immensely appreciated, thank you for your time.
Yours faithfully
Cain
