THE PROBLEMS

There are hundreds of millions of People in Africa who depend on farming for their livelihood. These people are poor (live on less than $2/day) farmers and who farm on very small plots of Land without any form of technology or modern farming practice. Ironically, they are the ones who feed over 90% of Africa's population. The problem is they remain poor and most can hardly afford the basics of life. They farm basically to feed their families and the excess is sold off.The excess is sold off to middlemen, for a very low value and out of desperation because .On the other hand,we have over a rising middle class numbering over 300 million people, who reside in urban areas but find it.

Farmers Challenges Consumers Challenges
Fear of wastage Time consuming to shop for food and farm produce in Urban areas
Inefficient Distribution/retailing that has plagued Africa for Centuries High Cost of Food due to multiple middlemen and logistic challenges
Lack of Market Access Inconvenient to shop for food from channels such as Open Air Market and local retailers
Inefficient or Lack of Storage

MISSING LINKS

One group (the farmers) has food, most of which is wasted and some sold to middlemen. While the other (the consumers) wants food and want to get it conveniently and at a lower price than what they get from the usual channels where they shop for food.

The missing link is they hardly meet. Because the connection between the farmer and the consumer is bridged by not one,but multiple layers of middlemen. Who make food expensive and most often not fresh .

THE COMMON FACTOR

The thing common to both the farmer and the consumer is firstly the 'Food'.One has food the other wants food. And secondly the 'mobile phone'. They both have mobile phones. Africa has a high rate of mobile penetration.

OUR SOLUTION TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND REDUCE HUNGER IN AFRICA

A Mobile Web marketplace that will connect the farmers directly to the consumers. While the marketplace provides delivery and logistic services to convey the farm produce from the farm directly to consumers and business buyers .We want to enrich the lives of these poor farmers ,reduce food wastage, reduce cost of food for the average consumer and enable the farmers get better and fair value for their produce so they can be encouraged to keep producing food for over 1 billion people in Africa .This mobile web marketplace is available to them for FREE.

We will connect them through mobile phones, directly to consumers while providing them with the technology, payment support and logistics support. With basic phones some of which we will provide to them with bundled services such as tips on modern farming practices, weather update, prevailing market prices and other information they need to increase the yield in their farms.
