This is NOT ok with me…

This is baby D (name kept hidden for her protection). She is currently in our baby home, so she is safe and she is loved...but she has had a really tough time recently and it is NOT ok for a baby to have to suffer like she has already had to do so much in her short little life...She was abandoned shortly after she was born and by the grace of God ended up with us at the El Roi home for abandoned babies at LIV Village in Lanseria, South Africa. We are so grateful she didnt end up another statistic like the 200 odd abandoned babies found in local mortuaries every month here. What started with a minor ear infection 3 weeks ago spread to her nose and then rapidly turned into a nasty flesh eating bacteria and overnight a seemingly harmless infection turned into any parents worst nightmare. Only she is an orphan so she doesnt have any parents fighting her battle for her... so we as a team have been given the priviledge of fighting this battle for her and with her! Her amazing care giver, Nicole, took her to a government hospital as we knew this was getting serious... sadly after waiting in the que all day they turned her away. They did not have space for her in the ward and asked Nicole to bring her back the following week and try again. We were devastated and watched in horror as the bacterial infection started to eat away her beautiful little nose. Our hands were tied, the government hospital could not help us and we cannot afford private healthcare... we knew we needed to act fast and managed to get a small donation for her to get into a private hospital for the w end on IV antibiotics. This likely saved her life but it didnt save her face. She has since had two surgeries at the government hospital but down the line is going to need massive reconstructive plastic surgery to repair the damage done to her face. She has been a little trooper up to this point but now has a long road ahead. Life is hard enough for a normal middle class child thats got loving parents... how much more so will it be for this little girl and so many others like her. She now has to deal with her disfigurment on top of being abandoned. We are calling on you to help us fight for her! To give her a hope and a future! Our funding is severely depleted and we currently have 15 abandoned babies in our care all who rely on us to give them a future. We are asking for donations for the daily care of baby D, her reconstructive surgeries (she will need many and we would love to do them before she is big enough to know she is so severly disfigured!) and to pay the pitifully small salaries of the amazing ladies who care for these babies!! This month they did not get paid due to lack of funding, yet continue to selflessly serve these children! We would also dearly love a small fund to keep as back up for these medical emergencies when the government healthcare fails us and we have no other options.
