The Skate Map:

A Free, **Complete**, and *rated* Google Map of Skateparks in the U.S.

Intro

The issue plaguing skatepark apps and maps over the past 10 years has been simple. None of them do what they're supposed to. You can drive into a new city with one of those apps and miss *tons* of skateparks.

The reason is because they all depend on user input. There hasn't been enough *good* user input to create a solid map.

I've been skating for 20 years now. Finding skateparks in new cities has always been a task. I've missed *so many* good parks because they're not listed, or they're brand new, or because they're in small towns off the interstate.

This all stops now.

Welcome to The Skate Map: A free, **complete**, and *rated* Google Map of Skateparks across the U.S.

It's simple. You access the map online, and the map is added to "Your Maps" on your Google Account. You can see all the skateparks on your phone. The parks are rated using shapes, ranking the parks *accurately* for size, quality, and fun-factor, so you never miss another *great* skatepark on the road.

The map uses 6 symbols to rate skateparks:

(5) Yellow Star = Meccas, Massive, and "Perfect" Parks

(4) Orange Diamond = Awesome / Fun Parks - large and keeps you skating. Smooth surface, good obstacles, and good transitions.

(3.5) Green Diamond = Above Average Park - mid-sized but definitely worth the trip

(3) Green Square = Good Parks - sometimes gnarly or rough, worth skating if you've got the urge

(2) Brown Square/Circle = Prefab / small DIY / Plaza

You can click the parks to bring up pictures and park info:

You can also get instant directions to the park:

It's incredible. I use it all the time, and I've gotten positive reviews from the folks who've tested it.

The Plan

At this point, what I want to do is expand the map from Texas to the rest of the U.S.. This will take a lot of time. My goal is to raise enough money to work on it full-time.

I've estimated completing the U.S. will take about 1000 hours, or about 20 hours per state. This includes information on the park, good pictures, and a quality rating. Texas took about 40 hours.

The most time-consuming part is getting the word out. Calling up skateshops, printing out promo materials, and showing up to demos and contests and so forth.

It'll take a lot of work, but I can make it happen.

Sponsorships

So! Here's what I can offer in exchange for sponsoring/investing in the Skate Map:

Individuals:

$5: A completed version of the Skate Map for Texas

$25: A spot on our contributors list

$50 or nore: A shout out on our Instagram @TheSkateMap

Businesses:

$25 or more: Add your skateshop to the map

$150: Add your company logo to our main sponsors list

***The first couple of contributions are the most important.***

The hardest part is getting the first couple hundred dollars. After that, when businesses, especially skateshops, can see people getting involved, they're a lot more willing to jump on board.

So it's up to you.
