Just recently, my brother Redentor Esperanza, was diagnosed through kidney biopsy with IgA Nephropathy. Also known as Berger’s Disease, IgAN is an autoimmune disorder and kidney disease that occurs when IgA deposits build up in the kidneys, causing inflammation that damages kidney tissues. IgA is an antibody—a protein made by the immune system to protect the body from foreign substances such as bacteria or viruses. It has been said that IgAN is an inborn disease wherein an individual who has it has been born with it. The cause is unknown.
In IgA nephropathy, this antibody collects in the glomeruli, causing inflammation (glomerulonephritis) and gradually affecting their filtering ability. Unfortunately for my brother, substantial part of his glumerulis have already been damaged, the main reason for the uncontrollable rise of his creatinine. With the rapid rise of his creatinine, we had no choice but to start with his dialysis, or toxic will build up in his body.
We do not know what the future holds for us but we are given three months to evaluate whether his disease will go into remission as there were already scarring in his kidney or we will be resorting to the life-saving kidney transplant. All are still hanging and we cant do anything except to surrender to God’s will.
Red, as he is fondly called by almost everyone, has been such a great father, son, brother, partner, friend, lawyer and prosecutor. He is well-loved by almost everyone. I am humbly knocking to everyone’s heart to help me give my brother a second lease of life through your prayers, donation or anything that could help him during the course of his treatment and recovery, from his twice a week dialysis, more than 10 medications and possible transplant.
And right now, due to complications of his biopsy, he needs undergo angioplasty and embolisation that would cost around 600,000 pesos or $12,000.
I hope you can share your spare by donating any amount.
Forever, I will always be grateful to everyone.
Siempre hay esperanza (there is always hope).
With lots of hope and dreams,
