Therapy Horse

I’m saving up for a therapy horse to help other people.

As someone often involved in community volunteer artwork projects, I’ve become someone who is more satisfied if other people are also benefiting.

So when I first experienced riding a gaited horse I knew they would be an amazing choice to help people with back pains and disabilities experience the healing qualities of horses.

Gaited horses can be any of a handful of breeds whose main quality is an ability to travel at an alternative intermediate speed to the trot. Often meaning only one foot leaves the ground at a time and always meaning there is no moment of suspension in the movement to jolt a rider. The paso fino also has a wonderful gentle nature and a bravery that adds to a relaxed ride you can trust. No horse is 100% safe but this unicorn horse is the safest you can find.

Owning this type of horse will be exciting for me as I can offer a ride to people suffering from mental illness, physical disabilities, age or a combination of these. Time and time again horse riding has proven to assist with pain relief, happiness, life quality and acceptance.

Knowing the joy that other people will experience from my horse feels almost more exciting than my own ability to ride this lovely horse when I please.

I go to sleep happy today feeling that with a little help I can be that final step closer to my dream and soon I can offer a ride to an elderly lady who for a long time allowed me to ride her old horse, while her riding days were over due to arthritis and old age.

I have a fair amount of savings for my horse but these horses are rare. Importing an older more mature horse will be my smartest option. I am saving now for an import process that will cost around $10,000.

My own efforts towards this include continuing to work three jobs and 70 hours a week, selling my artwork online and self control to limit junk food, clothing purchases and spending on social outings. My next move is to sell my car and use public transport for a while in the hopes to reduce my daily living costs.
