The Kids Little Neighborhood Library

My name is Mouad and I live a city called Ouarzazate. Ouarzazate is a small town in southern Morocco known for cinema and tourism pre-Covid19. Now it's kinda dead.

The city does not have a single library, that's why I need your help to build small neighborhood libraries mainly for kids and anyone interested in picking up a book or a story to read.

Since I live in a somewhat marginalized neighborhood, the culture of reading is not existent. By creating this library, the neighborhood kids will have a place where they can spend time especially during the pandemic while respecting the Covid-19 safety measures. It will also be a great learning space for them.

This neighborhood used to be known for drug abuse, and violence. The rates of the later have decreased significantly in the past couple years but the kids are not spending their time wisely or engage in beneficial activities as they are not existent.

Back in 2018, I was in USA taking part in a state department exchange program called IVLP, and when we were in Iowa city, I saw these little libraries in the streets and parks, and I was amazed. Small libraries containing books for anyone to read and return, I loved it so much, and I want to implement the same idea in my neighborhood as a start, and hopefully this can be a step towards lasting change, a change in how kids see education especially in these hard times.

The funds will be used to buy library bookshelves, English, French, and Arabic books and stories for kids aged 7-12, posters and booklets to be printed, and 400 USD laptop to be used for managing the libraries, as well as library users' information.

So I ask you to donate for this ambitious project as it means the world to me and to the neighborhood kids. Every contribution matters, small or big, as it will help me create a better environment in the neighborhood and enlighten the kids' future.
