My name is Mychael Strickland. I am the Founder and President of Nguzo Saba Academy. I live in one of the poorest counties in the state of North Carolina, where taxes, unemployment, and crime are alarmingly high. Although not in operation now, Nguzo Saba Academy will aim to educate minority and underserved youth in the Scotland County area. The academy will integrate African American and African history/culture into the NC education standards. This model, unique to Scotland County, looks to inspire and motivate more students to want to achieve higher standards of education for themselves. Nguzo Saba Academy aims to educate minorities, send them to college with scholarships, and encourage them to effect change here, as well as wherever they may decide to lead their young adult lives.

THE GOALS OF NGUZO SABA ACADEMY ARE TO:

1. Develop a curriculum that implements the NC essential standards from a multicultural point of view.

2. Offer a private school education at a public school price.

3. Teach high school aged students of Scotland County for four years using this newly developed curriculum.

4. Instill self awareness and self confidence while promoting academic excellence.

5. Send each student to college tuition free after graduating from Nguzo Saba Academy.

6. Create opportunities through education and resources that will allow all members of Scotland County to thrive.

The purpose of this fundraiser is to accumulate start up funds to finance essential components of running a nonprofit academy. There are a lot of small details, each with an associated fee, that go into successfully running Nguzo Saba Academy. Donated funds will go towards:solicitation fees, tax exemption fees, a nonprofit lawyer, etc. If I can gain funding in a timely manner, I wish to open the academy Fall of 2020. All donation amounts are welcomed; however, with a donation of at least $10 we can reach this goal easily. If you are unable to donate SHARE SHARE SHARE this campaign. Help me help our community flourish through education and opportunity.

This month I received a lot of outside donations. I am truly grateful for those. Keep posting and spreading the word about this campaign. From the total monies raised, only $25 dollars has been used so far. The money was used to enter in a pitch contest for startup businesses.. . . . .

NC solicitation of donation license

Update posted by Mychael Strickland at 08:47 am

We now have enough to secure a solicitation license in NC. This is much needed for upcoming fundraisers. Donated funds are essential to running a nonprofit, especially one who aims to provide a private education to students for free. Thank you for the support so far. Keep it going!!!
