"Bisong ang tawag nako ani", (translated from Bisaya to English into "I call this a vagina".) and we are not only talking about the physical organ. The vagina is womanhood. It is dignity. It demands respect. It should be admired. The vagina is our mothers who protected us in the womb, our home.
We are restaging the VDAY Monologues, a combination of pieces from The Vagina Monologues and because we are having problems financially to support our volunteers, we need your help.
WHAT WE WANT TO HAPPEN
There is no shame in saying the word. There is nothing wrong with it. In fact, it is part of a woman's body. Our mothers, from whom we all came from. Some people have vaginas. Some have figurative vaginas. Some have had vaginas made for them. But all of us know somebody who has a vagina.
All women of all shapes, sizes and biological makeup should accept their womanhood and not be shy or ashamed.
There are too many unreported harassment cases.
Domestic violence affects everyone in the home.
The people exposed to a violent nature will do harm to others.
The violence needs to stop.
I am Egan, doing the lights design and assisting the sounds from the tech booth in the back beside Shaunnee, my girlfriend, she has been participating in advocacy theatre for 4 years and one of the directors in this show.
I have done set design and lights design in several plays and have had workshops in production design. I am not doing this only for experience but also because I believe this cause is very important for my girlfriend, my mother, my sisters, my aunts, my grandma, my gay cousins, my friends, the women in the different performances, the men in the different performances, the women who are too shy to say "bisong" (translation: vagina), the audience who will learn that even catcalling a lady in a short skirt is wrong, the people whose these stories belong to, the people who have been hurt and cannot talk yet, the whole LGBT community who feel they should hide when in fact they did nothing wrong by choosing their gender identities, for everyone who knows a woman in their lives, for everyone.
Shaunnee, one of the directors and the acting coach, felt that the group of volunteers this year are some of the bravest being actual survivors of violence. “We are speaking on behalf of the women who can’t speak about their experiences, their vaginas, their bilat, their bisong, what if somebody violates our vagina? Are we still going to hide behind the shadows?"
Maia, one of the directors and the executive producer, always leads this project and does most of the marketing. She wants people to know there are a lot of stories like these happening in the society. "It teaches you that there’s nothing wrong with telling people that this happened to you, telling people that I am a woman who has been violated."
WE NEED HELP
We earned $195 in the previous show last February 9, 2016, before feeding the cast members and production crew. Plus $115 from late payments.
We have been rehearsing without funds and have been rehearsing in venues by chance when there are sponsors in the past. It has been difficult so we are hoping to ask for help from generous hearts out there who want to help our mission.
In our upcoming shows we need to put up rehearsals for one week. We attached our estimated expenses needed for rehearsals up to 2 show dates. We have also included transportation allowance and gift for each person involved in this small yet very hardworking group although in all honesty, the honorarium or gift is not the priority, in case we fall short off our budget.
WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP
100% of the funds we earn thru our shows are donated to survivors of Sendong (severe tropical storm with international name Washi), which hit Northern Mindano in December 2011, claimed the lives of at least 2000 people and destroyed the lives and livelihood of thousands.
If we are blessed enough to exceed the target budget in this campaign, we will divert the amount to the donations.
Thank you so much for reading this.
PS. This is the first time I make a campaign. If you have any suggestions or questions please feel free to message me. Your help and opinion will be very helpful
Update (2016-02-24): Extended campaign end date due to schedule changes of production.
