The Untended Ten

Update posted by Brenda Gordon On Sep 03, 2015

These puppies are real fighters! They have struggled with ringworm, heartworm, tapeworm, hookworm, roundworm, whipworm, pneumonia, body lice, fleas, ticks, earmites, malnutrition, giardia and coccidia. On top of all that, one puppy got his leg broken from his brother sitting on him.

We are happy to report that the ringworm, heartworm, tapeworms, hookworms, round and whipworms, the lice, fleas, ticks and mites, the pneumonia, malnutrition, giardia and coccidia have all been treated and cured! The broken leg is still bandaged, and "Dusty" still has a cast for a few more weeks, though he is on the mend.

We are even more excited to announce that the adoptions have begun! Of the nine survivors, 6 of the puppies have been chosen for adoption by amazing, caring families! We have only three left, "Dusty" with the broken leg needs more time and medical care, and his two sisters who took longer to gain the proper weight and needed more time.

We are looking forward to this Friday to find out if Dusty leg is healing properly. X-rays will show us the healing. We are so glad that the vet says he's healthy enough to be neutered, so that happen when he is sedated for his x-rays.

And most exciting of all, his sisters will be ready for adoption!

Because of the unexpected number of parasites and a broken leg, our expenses have been higher than expected. Please consider donating to help us pay these medical bills so that we will have no debt to the Vet, and so that we will be able to take more pets from the shelter and save more lives.

With heavy hearts and many tears we have sad news. The little girl with the worst case of pneumonia was rushed to the vet. She spent several days at the vets office receiving 24 hour care, but still it was just too much for her tiny starved body. She past away in the late morning on the second day. Loosing a pup is not something we are used to, we save so many and loose so few. We at Pack N Pounce were stunned by the news and our hearts are broken. But we are taking solace in that she will never be hurt, abandoned or scared again.

Her siblings are doing great. They responded to the antibiotics and the ringworm medication. They have recovered from the ringworm and pneumonia! We are slowly deworming them as to not stress their bodies too much. Dr Ellis, the most wonderful vet, has given us instruction on how to make sure that they become parasite free while recovering from starvation, pneumonia, and ringworm!

Soon they will be healthy, strong and parasite free! They will be headed back to the vet for the next stage in their care. Spay and Neutering!

We are still in need of bedding, food and medication, as well as the funds to spay and neuter these darlings. Every little bit helps!

UPDATE:

A collective sigh of relief went though everyone at Pack N Pounce when we found out that the Parvo test came out NEGATIVE! Yeah!

Sadly, we do have a set back. One of the puppies has pneumonia. She will be staying at the vet's office until she is cleared with a clean bill of health. A huge thank you goes to the foster who watched her all night, checking her breathing and stimulating her when she seemed to have a hard time, while waiting for the vet to become available. All the puppies are now on antibiotics, but only the one is in need of 24 hour care. Unfortunately, it does increase our expected expense.

Please remember that your generous donations go directly to the care and needs of the pets.

Thank you in advance.
