The Unsung Heroes are seeking funds for choir uniforms . Thank you for your generosity to help this very worthwhile project.

The Unsung Heroes is not your typical choir. Comprised exclusively of domestic helpers, 'maids' from the Philippines, they were first assembled in 2014 by Jane Engelmann, a Hong Kong based performing arts teacher. Jane's vision for the choir was to recognise and honour the sacrifices these women make daily and provide them a chance to "find their voice" by joining together to sing their story.
The choir began with an inauspicious start as only 4 members participated in the first few rehearsals but have now grown to more than 50 members. They have been the subject of international media attention and the subject of a full length documentary feature film which is currently being showed in major cinemas across Asia . Due to all the increased attention, the choir has been invited to perform at many different events and media functions. We would really like to invest in uniforms so we can look professional. However, we have no funds. Jane runs the choir on an entirely voluntary basis giving up her time to teach and lead the choir and to arrange events and concerts for them. The ladies in the choir have very low wages most of which they send back to the Philippines to support their children and families back home. We fund ourselves in terms of transport, stationery, printing, venue hire etc and rely on the kindness of the HK community to help us out from time to time by letting us use a venue etc.
All donations will go directly to buying uniforms for the Unsung Heroes to wear when they perform at events such as Charity Balls, Galas and Fundraisers. Each full uniform consisting of black culotte style pants and a white Chinese style jacket will cost around $1000 per person. (the pants will be about $300 and the Jacket in the region of $700 )
