Campaign Story
1. Logline
A 9-year-old Pampered Chinese girl must overcome her prejudice of a 9-year-old Malay fishmonger or else she will lose her one true friend.
2. Story synopsis
A 9 year-old Chinese girl is assigned by her teacher to pair up with a Malay boy for a school project. However, she doesn’t like him due to his external dirty appearances and the fact that he isn’t smart.
The girl tries to get rid of the boy however, instead of distancing himself away from the girl, the Malay boy is always there for her when she needed help. He encourages her to achieve her goal despite his life threatening illness. His genuineness eventually touches the girl’s heart.
When the boy is in critical condition, she stayed by his side. Even though she is feeling distressed by her best friend’s condition, she tries her best to get back up on her feet so that she can be there to support him through this ordeal. If a packet of gummy bear could make the boy leave the world without suffering, she would do anything just to make him pass away peacefully.
3. Why are we making this film?
This is a seemingly light hearted film, where our film shows the innocence in young kids - their carefree souls, perseverance and about being book-smart and street-smart. In our film, our characters are made to be similar to how some of us were like back in the days, so carefree, so clueless with the world. Our film also touches on topics like racial harmony, how a friendship between all races still do exist.
By doing this film, we hope to teleport our audiences back to their carefree childhood and allow them take a short break from their hectic lifestyle today. We wish to make a film that makes the audience enjoy watching but at the same they feel the pure emotions that the children expressed.
4. Film inspiration
This film is based on a true life event that happened to our Director back when she was younger. We will be telling this story from a children point of view, something we can all relate to. We are inspired to tell this story as we wish to show how selfless these children are, their world is not as complicated as an adult - they would always help one another. At 9 years old, not all children will know the meaning of death but the thought of losing their friend forever scares them, they would do anything for their friend, as innocently as believing that a gummy bear would take their pain away.
5. The fundings
All the fundings will be used to help us from our pre-production till post-production. As this is our final year project, every dollar counts as it will be all allocated to different departments in order to make this film come true!
We truly appreciate every donation, thank you!
