We are a group of six Social Service Worker students at Alqonquin College in Ottawa and we are raising money for the Syd Ford Emergency bursary.
This fundraiser is part of our project for our Community Development/Organization course. Please read the description below about Syd Ford and what the emergency fund entails. Each donation helps a student in need.
Syd Ford was one of the founding professors in the Social Service Worker (SSW) program at the Algonquin College in Ottawa, ON. He taught in and coordinated the program for many years. Syd was known for taking five dollars out of his pocket whenever he saw a student in need or when he suspected that they may not have eaten that day. He would quietly buy the student a sandwich. Syd also believed strongly in social networking and team building.
After his death, the SSW faculty established a fund to honour Syd’s memory. If a SSW student finds her/himself in need of emergency funds they may request assistance. Funds, usually capped at $200, are generally available on a one time basis to students while they are in the program. In addition, these funds are used to support the following: annual program awards, student networking and team building events, and on occasion, one of our community non-profit partners.
Please donate to support students in need.
