The Stormy Journey

Hi, my name is Evangeline, 35 years of age, happily married for 17 years. We have 2 kids, the eldest is 17 years old and the youngest is 9. We are here to seek for financial assistance for my husband Humprey, who is diagnosed with a Stage 4 Lung Cancer this year.

It started on December 2018 with a persistent cough, we decided to consult a doctor and he was given oral antibiotics, but even after the said medications, the cough was not treated and there was no improvement on his condition.

On January 2019, the chronic cough was still persistent. We decided to transfer to a different hospital and he was adviced to undergo a chest X-ray. The X-ray results showed a mass on his lungs. I was scared because when we researched it online, this initial findings is a possible symptom of cancer. We consulted a Pulmunologist and we were told that Humprey needs a CT Scan. It took us a bit longer to raise funds for the CT Scan. After the CT Scan we were advised that he needed a biopsy. Since we don't have any money to pay for the biopsy, so we decided to try herbal medicines.

On March 2019, Humprey suddenly have difficulties of breathing and I rushed him to the hospital. We were advised by the attending physician that his left lung already collapsed. They also informed us that an urgent biopsy is needed to confirm which treatment will best suit his deteriorating health condition.

The sad thing is, my husband is the bread winner of the family, and his meager income is not enough to support all the family need. We are now uncertain on what will happen to our family with Humprey being diagnosed with a Stage 4 Cancer. But God is always good, the needed biopsy was done with the help of a family friend, who is a doctor.

May 2019, we received the biopsy result, MALIGNANT ADENOCARCINOMA, my world collapsed with this news, my whole family cried. A lot of questions were asked like "how can we survive?" "Why him?" "Why does my family have to endure this trial?" I keep on realizing the fact that our family can't afford to have this cancer to be treated.

In June 2019, we consulted an oncologist and we were advised that he needed a brain scan, bone scan and abdominal scan to confirm if the Cancer metastasized on the other organs. Once again as if the trial that we've experienced wasn't enough, another sad news was given to us, the Cancer sadly spread on his brain, hips and bones. I've asked the oncologist if there's a chance that my husband will be cured, he said no. He even said no stage 4 cancer patients has been cured. But I personally refused to believe what the oncologist said. I know that nothing is impossible with God.

But even if you have a firm and stable mind-set, I guess there will be days that you'll feel weak and defeated on this despairing journey. Because of too much stress, his body became frail and weaker. He was so poorly and frail that we were advised that Humprey can't undergo chemotherapy.

The only option we could hope for is to pass the EGFR test, and if ever he'll pass on this test he can undergo targeted therapy (oral chemo), but the problem is 2 patients whom I spoke within the hospital said that this targeted therapy is only common on female patients.

And because he didn't receive any treatment yet for this cancer, on July 2019 the effect was so bad for his frail body. He is coughing up blood often and severe pains on the ribs are just some of the problems he encounters every day. He was confined in the hospital two times because he can't eat due to the mass blocking the esophagus. He became so weak but he was able to recover.

The results of the EGFR came this August and Thank God he was able to meet the requirements. The problem is that Oral Targeted Chemotherapy is very expensive compared to the normal IV Chemotherapy. It costs Php60,000.00 ($1,200.00) for 30 tablets which is good for a month (this will be a monthly ongoing treatment so we need to raise as much money as we could) and I am asking for your kind help to support us in raising funds for Humprey's fight in winning this rough journey.

There is no little help, all your help will be greatly appreciated. Please help my kind-hearted husband and help my kids to not lose their father.
