The selected vessel is a 18 m Russian built yacht called "Nordlicht".
Russian 60ft cruising yacht Nordlicht _ Article from "Year: 2005. Magazine "Boats and Yachts Russuian Magazine"
"Nordlicht" - a 60-foot cruising yacht of the "long voyage cruiser" category - was built according to the project "East". Of course, I would like to try to use Russian terminology, but the phrase “distant cruiser” carries a tangible militaristic connotation. However, the author of the project himself claims that for really long voyages, the yacht is still small and more suitable for the definition of "family cruiser" (we note here that the boundaries of these unofficial classifications are quite blurred, but nevertheless 60-foot yachts in Europe are considered intended for long-distance swimming). Nevertheless, the desired navigation areas by the ship's customers are indicated quite clearly: these are the Baltic and the Mediterranean. Based on this, many parameters of the vessel were determined -
The appearance and architecture of the boat is quite typical for modern cruising ships of such dimensions - a classic keel yacht, arranged according to the principle of "raised saloon", in which the flooring of this room is noticeably higher than the other compartments, and an impressive superstructure is located on the deck. However, the "Nordlicht" outwardly differs from the Meta built on the same principle - the strongly beveled pin and transom combined with flattened proportions of the cabin with a dark strip of a "whole" porthole in full length give the boat a swift look.
Helm of the yacht "Nordlicht"
The hull of the boat, as already mentioned, is welded from aluminum alloy, the skin thickness is 5 mm. Due to the sufficiently large thickness of the sheets, welding and residual deformations were minimized. The hull structure is a longitudinal set on frame frames, contours are round-bent, a relatively shallow (with a large chord) fin with cast-iron ballast is used. The proportions of the yacht and the main dimensions almost exactly correspond to many of its well-known foreign "classmates" - for example, "Farr 585" - however, the displacement of a domestic yacht is much higher. However, the creator of the Quartet design bureau, Vasily Alekseev, admitted that she was overweight. There are many reasons for this, one of them is the replacement by customers in the process of building light furniture that relied on the project: After consultation with the captain of the vessel, it was decided to equip the cruising yacht with a more comfortable one, appropriate for such a vessel in status. At the request of customers, the battery capacity was also greatly increased (up to 1000 Ah) and fresh water supplies - two more flexible containers with a total volume of 300 liters are added to the existing tank with a capacity of 400 l.
The layout of the decks is generally stereotyped. Two cabins are aft symmetrically in the aft, in the center there is a spacious lounge. In contrast to the already mentioned “Meta”, the cabin of which is arranged very tightly, there is much more free space in the center of the vessel at the “Nordlicht” (let’s not forget, however, two things - it’s 10 feet longer, moreover, the “Meta” is more spacious cabins). In addition, “Meta” - a houseboat “for one”, “Nordlicht” is obliged to provide living space for six and, at the request of customers, also guests - as a result, the cabin is designed for ten. Accordingly, the yacht is equipped with such high requirements for habitability - it has air conditioning and a heater, three refrigerators, two showers, a stove and a microwave are installed on the galley for cooking hot food.
Sketch of the theoretical drawing of the yacht (side and hull)
The navigational place is strongly pulled back and is located on the starboard side in the aisle between the aft cabins and the cabin - a galley is organized symmetrically with respect to the DP. In the bow is another large cabin. Its layout and decoration are somewhat different from those generally accepted on yachts of this size. In the cabin on the starboard side there are two bunk beds, the lower of which can be folded, forming a fairly wide sofa. Thus, the cabin is transformed from an exclusively sleeping compartment into a more utilitarian room, capable of, for example, serving as an office during the day - a rare solution. From the same cabin you can go even further into the nose - into the sailing pantry, ending with a collision bulkhead (the cable compartment is located here).
In the stern of the yacht there is a large compartment in which the inflatable boat is stored (four-meter "Mnev" with an aluminum bottom). Access to it is through a large hatch in the transom, which is covered with electric sash. By the 2005 season, removable davits should appear, which will allow you to keep the boat upstairs in full readiness (for example, for swimming in skerries).
Interior elements of the yacht "Nordlicht"
The deck equipment of the yacht includes two Lewmar electric winches, used for working on sheets, halyard winches - traditional manual, although the halyards can be wound on electric. Used mast production "Sparcraft" with three rows of spreaders. In addition, a couple of buckstags were installed, which serve to maintain the tension of the inner headquarters, on which the staysail is lifted. The initial armament of the yacht did not provide for a gennaker or spinnaker, however, according to the results of the first navigation, the issue of equipping the yacht with a gen-naker still remained. The twist of the grotto into the boom is applied. There are two cockpits on the yacht - a deep middle ("guest") and a shallower aft ("helmsman"), around which all the winches are concentrated. The cockpits are separated by a wide coaming, on top of which there is a chick-cattle shoulder strap.

The boat’s navigation system also matches the rest: for example, it includes two chart plotters at once (above and below), which allows you to plot a course from the steering cockpit. Of course, there is a boat and an autopilot.
The yacht was built for a rather long time: its design began at the very beginning of 2000, but it was launched only in 2004 - completion was very slow, during which many changes were made to the original Vostok project, which resulted in a very close collaboration of designers and customers of the boat. It is characteristic that all three parties (designer, builder and customer) were satisfied with each other.
Shelter of sheets of the "automatic" staysail
One of the serious tests of the new vessel was the autumn race to and from Gogland Island - about 170 miles at the general rate. In fact, she became the first Nordlicht long voyage. The weather (and it was already the end of September) was severe - the wind gusted up to 20 m / s, the wave height, according to some riders, exceeded 3 m (do not forget that this is a “heavy”, short and steep wave of the Gulf of Finland) . The yachtsmen had a very difficult time - one yacht left the race due to an opened leak, some lost all of their nasal sails.
"Nordlicht" under these conditions proved to be wonderful, without the slightest malfunction, covering the entire distance. There was only one serious problem - it turned out that the system for cleaning the grotto into the boom cannot replace the classic way of taking reefs. When winding the mainsail in a boom, it was going to bag by the mast and normally did not work (it was impossible to stretch it over the boom by any means). According to the designer, the yacht needs to return the usual reef pendants, and use the twist only for the complete cleaning of the grotto. However, according to the captain of the yacht Pavel Pastukhov, you can do without reef pendants - you just need to learn how to work with the spin system correctly (for the crew this was the first exit on this yacht, and they have not yet acquired skills in handling its equipment).
The yacht, according to Pavel, turned out to be very seaworthy and dry - even during this difficult race the deck was not watered.
The vessel as unfortunately being abandoned by the owner and due to neglect requires major works .
The cost for the works can be resumed
Budget repairs list costs:
Main engine works
Electronics + sonar
