On December 26th, J and I will have been together for five years. My hope was to propose to her at that time, but I have not been able to save up for a ring :-( With your help, I can at least get her something modest that she might be happy with until I can do better.

So, in lieu of having a wedding shower or wedding gifts and the like, I am fishing for help BEFORE the engagement. I would also like for you all to be there for her answer, and want to plan a big get together for Christmas at which to surprise her. This HAS to be tip top secret, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't let my plan get back to her!!!! Totally between you guys and I until the time comes ;-)
Many people have started helping me come up with some wonderful ideas for how to make this a memorable moment!!!! Thank you so much!!!!! If I have to, I will get her man-made diamonds for now and then replace them with the real thing later on a "REAL" anniversary 
The most important thing is to give her the most memorable proposal that she could hope for. She has changed my life so much and is the perfect one for me...AND my kiddo. We both love her so very dearly....she deserves her fairy tale moment and I am going to try my best over the next few months to get it together.
All ideas are welcome and we must have a gathering for the event as I have watched her watch proposal videos and her favorites are the ones involving friends and family.

I just a humorous idea. If I could take the movie The Proposal (which Joanna likes a great deal), I could edit it to cut to a home video during a certain scene and do a little video asking her :P We could act like such and such and such haven't seen the movie and "oh you just HAVE to see it" and we will make sure we and SHE are all watching at the right time.
